recently we have been having sporadic issues with scanning. Have been trying to resolve, but have had zero luck with my efforts. What I see most is lots of computers with scan data 30 days or older yet are scans run every few hours

I started running a scan of just one machine IP. It goes to the scan page but pulls another name associated with that IP I am scanning. It completes and when I look for the correct machine name, brings up nothing.

I found an old DNS entry for that IP, I removed it, I ran /registerDNS on the new machine and verified it is now listed correctly. I go to the server running spiceworks and run a /flushdns and restart the spiceworks service.

Start the scan again and get the same old name and still the new machine does not show in inventory.

3 Spice ups

When you search for a device does two results come up? One that says AT/AT COMPATIBLE then the device name, and the other with the device name as the Serial Number?

Nope, it is a completely different machine, different name, different serial.

Almost as if someone spiceworks is using an old DNS entry.

Hi Brian. I’d like to take a look at your system logs to help you out with this. I’ll send you an email with some instructions on how to send those in here in just a minute. Look for an email from support@spiceworks.com.

I have since moved my install to an entirely different system, but still having a similar issue. Maybe you can confirm if I need to send the logs. Since we are no longer able to scan by machine name and only IP. When we add new machines we do a one off scan using the IP of that machine. We find that other machines that at one time shared that same IP address get pulled up instead and not the machine that we actually want to scan.

Since we can not remove that IP from any specific machine, not sure how to get this to update.
