I have a fairly simple setup at home.

A Combo Router/modem from the isp, 4 pc’s(vista, 2x xp ,Linux laptop), and a networked printer.

Spiceworks is on the Vista pc, and after i setup ssh it sees the Linux laptop and evertying in it. However, when I tried to setup the accounts for the two xp machines, all i get is an error. It says " check account, password or WMI configuration".

I have gone so far as to temporarily turn off all firewalls and security to get it to work. I have gone through every tutorial i could find that showed how to adjust the dcom and wmi settings so that they could talk. but ever time i get NOTHING.

Please tell me this is a simple fix that’s right under my nose. I love spiceworks, and would rather it be my ignorance than a problem with the program.

I am using v3.6 if that helps. I don’t like beta’s, and if I didn’t get a deal from work, I wouldn’t be using vista(which i believe is still in beta).

I assume you are using a workgroup? You will need to make the account that SW is using a local admin on the workgroup machines.

Make sure that on each XP machine the “forceguest” registry key is set to zero. You can find it in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Lsa

J-159 :: Yes I have an account on each system that’s an admin, I got tired of the family changing their passwords at whim, and consequently locking me out, two days before i went in and ran av cause they never do.

DBeer :: I’ll have to try that. Thanks

Yes that worked beautifully, thanks agian.

Glad to be of help!
