Spiceworks software is not scanning workstations and servers fully. I get the infamous “Still gathering Software information” and disk usage network info is not populated. If this worked I’d be pretty happy because all I want is simple monitoring.

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

Hi,

We have a page dedicated to this question: How Does the Scan Work?

Items higher on your scanlist in Settings → Network Scan take precedence over those entered later.

If you’re still seeing, “Still gathering software information”, here’s what you might want to try:

If you’re still having problems after that, try the following:

spiceworks.exe Browse to the C:\\Program Files\\Spiceworks\\data directory and make a backup of the settings.yaml file.

Edit the settings.yaml file and find the following entry. WMI is installed in 2000, ME, XP, Vista, and can be added to 98 and 95. View Spiceworks requirements [ here ].

When you execute that command from the Spiceworks machine you are initiating a WMI connection with the remote computer (the 2k machine). You should receive back a serial number.

If you get an error response it most likely means WMI is not accessible on the remote machine, which is most commonly a firewall issue.

Currently Spiceworks has a network analyzer tool built-in. Information is gathered using SNMP from network devices.
