So its Wednesday and we are halfway through the week. I tend to see a few posts about soul sucking Tier 1 level work and how it seeps into the workload creating problems. That being said I thought I’d share a couple of stories to cheer people up and get you through the second half of the week.
Internet issues - The first story on the list is really recent. We received a ticket for someone having computer slowness. I went out to diagnose it and did not see any issues whatsoever but took a look anyway. Despite the fact I asked them to let me know if there were additional issues they went to the other guy days later to complain. We worked out the real problem which was Edge caused Windows 10 to slow down. The person had used Firefox to login to 1 application, Chrome to clock in and browsed the internet on Edge but Edge was never opened originally when we took a look at the computer. When we explained what the issue was the person stated they did not realize they could get to the internet from Firefox or Chrome
Sound Problems - This one was also recent. A member entered a ticket stating their sound was not working. We remoted in and found their sound was turned down to 2%. In front of them the sound was turned up and they apologized stating they felt truly stupid. To be fair this person has had more than one issue with these types of moments
Hopefully this makes someone chuckle and gives someone the strength to carry on. Happy Wednesday.

Man I love those tickets where you go to the users desk and just push a button. The look on their face is pretty priceless. Of coarse they always apologize for wasting my time but little do they know, they made my day. Tickets are closed really quick and I get a good chuckle in.

Or those when you show up to their desk, they try to replicate what happened and it works perfectly.

had a ticket here this morning related to volume and earbuds. (user had forgotten that the earbuds where plugged into the rear audio port of the tower. and was not directly visible) end user complained that the PC volume was cranked up to “deafen me” and they could barely here the audio… a quick trip to the desk and unplugged the earbuds and yep everyone was deaf…

My former boss texted me out of the blue last week. His mouse was acting up and it was making using his computer difficult.
I was in the middle of something that night and had the next several nights booked so I replied that I could stop by Sunday if it was still an issue.
Sunday rolls around and I get to his house. He leads me to his computer and shows me how his computer is acting. It is behaving exactly like the “Click Lock” accessibility feature is on, but a quick check reveals that it isn’t.
I asked him what he had tried and he said he had reset the computer several times, reinstalled the drivers, and tried talking to it both sternly and pleadingly. So far these were all equally effective.
Seeing as to how this was a wireless mouse I flipped it over, there was a power switch, I flipped it off and on while he was talking. Bingo, the mouse started working fine.
After letting fly a few choice words he asked how I had fixed it. Apparently he had owned this mouse for nearly two years and had never once turned it off, just replaced the batteries when they (frequently) died.
Maybe 2-3 minutes for the visit and he learned something new, and will probably save a fortune in batteries. So money well spent on his end and hardly a blip on my weekend, that’s a win-win in my book.
