Laptops are not really my forte recently, so I’m asking what are some good current business laptops. Laptop preference would be about 15" screen, light weight, Windows 7 driver supported and preferable dockable. I usually lean toward Dell or Lenovo, but just want some feedback on current models. Budget would be around +/- $1200.

Maybe a Lenovo X1 or Dell Latitude?

Laptops for Execs, you can never go wrong with a Thinkpad:

Our CEO is on a couple year old Latitude. Anything you get, as long as it uses a SSD instead of HDD should be adequate for most CEO’s workload of email and office apps. A laptop I’m setting up for a senior manager is a Dell Precision M2800, and I expect that to be completely acceptable, if not overkill, for either them or the CEO.

It does, though, all depend on what they do with it.

I’d personally go for latitudes as I’ve deployed a few recently and had no issues.

With a solid state!

I’d go with Lenovo over Dell IMO. Use their sales chat, give them your requirements, and they’ll make a perfect match.

We deploy a lot of ThinkPads, and the ThinkPad 540P is a great one.

+1000 for SSD of course.

I really like Lenovo. It’s been one of the better laptops I’ve used.

I would never buy anything but Lenovo for business laptops!! I have always bought in the ThinkPad family. I currently have a T420 and love it. :o)

We use DakTech. Made in Fargo, ND they have a 3 year warranty (yes drop and spills too). So they are just another whitebox company, who cares, their price is awesome, warranty is better, and they don’t have any bloatware. They also honor my diagnostics and will send parts or I can send it off if repair is needed. I don’t work for nor am I affiliated to DakTech, I just know a good product when I see one.

Ugh 15" Screen? I hope they do not travel much.

I was given a Latitude E6530 when i started here and it is great (for a 15" screen).

Personally i want thing light and quick. So i would consider a 12-14" with SSD no optical etc. Dell and Lenovo have some great options in this. And then there is the Surfface Pro 3.

A Lenovo W540 would fit the bill nicely.

I have deployed Dell, HP and Lenovo laptops in large numbers.

Lenovo has very good support and better prices on the higher end laptops.

Lenovo bought out IBM’s ThinkPad line for a reason - It’s good.

I really wanted to go Lenovo like everyone else seemed too, but I’m gonna have to go with Dell. Our company has Dell premier with mostly all Dell computers and servers. We already have Dell support, Dell accessories and Dell reinstall discs. Guess I’ll just keep it in the family. So now I’m looking at the Dell Latitude 7000 series.

We have the Dell Latitude 7240 series. Good, fast, and super lightweight, but be sure to update to the latest graphics drivers and BIOS version on arrival. They originally had some video issues with docking/undocking.

The i7s in the tablets run a little warm for my taste… I am testing the Windows 10 Technical Preview on a Lenovo Helix and enjoy the device. However, I would still go with a Surface Pro 3 (Intel i5 &128GB HD) over the Helix for $50 more. But you really cant go wrong with either…

Thanks for all of the mentions!

I totally understand wanting to keep it all in the family, makes perfect sense. Just reaching out to let you know that if you do have questions in the future, we’re available.

I’ve had really good experience with Latitude models. They do make some lightweight 12-14" models. 15" is going to be around 2-2.5kg (ie heavy, but nice size screen). If you really want lightweight have a look at the Microsoft Surface Pro 3’s and couple it with a dock, large screen and kb/mouse kit. IMHO MS should start adding 3yr onsite pro hardware support for their Surfaces, that is really essential for CEO’s.

If money isn’t an issue get him and XPS

This is pretty much what I was thinking. Executive type that travel really love the X1. If it’s just going to sit on the desk then I like the Latitudes.

Dell latitude line would be the first response.

You will not get much of an ultra book in that price range, no SSD etc.
