So I landed a 3 month contract to potential hire job… 3 months ago. It’s been fun, the work has be challenging the coworkers friendly. This week was supposed to be my last. Either I get hired or let go…
Tuesday I my boss pulled me into his office. He told me that I do good work, and that everyone likes me. They just need to assess the position. So he asks me to stay on for another month. Sure thing. I then get an email from my agent saying she’s here for me when I go to look for work again.
So now I have conflicting messages. I got a hold of my agent Wednesday and it turns out while they have no problems with me and my work ethic, they feel my skill set doesn’t align with their needs. They’ll be looking for another long term IT guy to replace me.
So it looks like September will be my last month here on spiceworks. I’ll be unemployed again but hopefully not for too long (my agent is referring me to another agent up in Bellevue, WA.)
I’ll keep posting while I’m here and I’ll give a final good bye when the time comes.

I wish you luck in your job hunt, and hopefully something permanent.

That’s all I can hope for. I’ve been jumping from contract to contract for most of my IT career. I had one perminant job but it was very much bellow my capabilities… I would love to quit working but that’s not really possible…
Life is a roller coaster full of ups and downs until you return to where you started and get off.

You should be able to stay on Spiceworks, just swap your email to your personal email i believe. Never hurts to keep in contact with this community
I’m sorry to hear about your job, keep your chin up though, when one door closes another two or three will open! Wish you best of luck!

Yeah, no reason to stop using the community. I haven’t used the Spiceworks app in almost a year (and will probably never use it again, unless it’s at home), but I’m still here.

It will have to be a fairly big door. I was looking at apartment prices in Bellevue… yowza! I suppose I could commute for cheaper rent.
Anyway, I know this isn’t the end of anything. This is just a minor setback to my master plan of getting stable employment and a house. MWUAHAHAHAHA!!! cough
But seriously. Thanks.

I definitely plan to keep this account. Especially when I’m so close to Cayenne.

Sorry to hear man. I hate it when employers do that. at one job I had the owner of the company tell me he will get me car to use for work since I was using my own truck that got 14MPG, the next week he laid me off…

First Matthe6920, OUCH that was freaking cold.
Jared5997, good luck, with the search. Would it be of benefit to look in Oregon as well? (Since you are in WA.)

Please don’t say that’s true. Community and Installation accounts are separate. You can always come to these forums for advice/help, and give your own advice, even if you don’t have Spiceworks installed. I would suggest moving your community account to your personal email instead of company email. That’s what a lot of us do.
Good luck. I am also in Washington so it you want to stop in and chat, let me know. And if I hear of any good jobs I’ll be sure to let you know.

I wish you luck in your search for a new job. It sucks when employers pull that.

Wow… I once got hired on for a temp job that I needed really bad. The job was moving a hospitals IT equipement to a new building. I started on a Friday but had a drill weekend (Army National Guard) that Saturday and Sunday. I started at 9am and when everyone was leaving at 5pm they asked if anyone wanted to stay late because they needed the help. I wanted to prove my dedication and desire for the job so much that I stayed till 10pm that night.
Before I left I told him that I had a drill weekend and that I couldn’t work that weekend at all. He said, ok, we’ll call you. I never heard back from him.
I didn’t get to bed that night until 2am because I had to get all my Army stuff washed, dried, and packed and ready to go @ 5am. So I got no sleep because I was trying to prove myself for a job I didn’t get.

I could technically move wherever, it’s just that I have friends here who will take me in when things go south. For example I’m staying with a friend while I’m between jobs. I just recently moved to WA and don’t have an apartment or house up here yet, hence why I want a job. I’ve been checking in at extended stays while my jobs are in flux. Once I get hired on, I’ll be looking into an apartment.

Good luck in your job hunt!
Try other states. With 7 years of IT experience you should be fine.

And stay where? It took me 3 solid months to get my first job up here. That whole time i was renting a room from a friend for $300 a month. Now that I have my foot in the door, new jobs should come easy. If I were to move to a different state, I wouldn’t have that kind of support and I couldn’t get an apartment so I would be stuck in something like an extended stay for 3 months. At $1200 a month, and extended is really only feasible if you have a job, temp or otherwise.

Thanks everyone for the support and just chatting it up with me. I’ll definitely stick with the community and I’ll keep you guys in the loop regarding this whole fiasco that is my life.

When I was laid off it was on a Friday the day before drill (ANG) I drive 3 hours north to go to my drill weekend so I took my last pay check a small 150.00 check and blew it on fuel and food for drill weekend. I had to run my credit card to its limit several times during the job hunt and to go to next months drill weekend. Have you gone to the VA or work for warriors? I know I cringed when I said VA but hey its an option.

That story of mine was literally years ago. Since then, the only thing I’m considering the VA for is a home loan.
