Hello

We allready have a Server infrastructure in our local network.

SQL Server, DC Server and now we need a Remote Desktop Services additionally. 3 Users works from Home and want to connect with VPN to our RDS and work on the RDS.

I did a lot of research on the internet about the licenses, but unfortunately I still don’t have an overview.

First we need 3 User Calls and we need an extra license for RDS Server or is that included in the Windows Server Standard 2019 License ?
We are a Company and not School,Gouverment.

Thank You

You’ll need a license for each user. The server doesn’t need a RDS license, it simply needs to be a licensed and activated copy of Windows Server.

CALs are not included. You’ll need User CALs in addition to RDS CALs. You should already have the User CALs I would think.

You need:

1x Windows Server 2019 Standard license

3x Windows Server User CALs (you probably already have these since you have existing windows servers)

3x Remote Desktop Services (RDS) User CALs

Additionally, with the base Server 2019 license you are entitled to 2 administrative users for each server, so if you are not one of the 3 users that will be using RDS, you can still connect to the server via RDP (for administrative purposes only).

Everything above is good, that’s just the official doc on it.
