I just joined LinkedIn so I’m trying to figure out how to grow my network…Who do you have in yours? Would you add non-IT people, like for example your colleagues from work? What about your boss?

And when do you think you “know” the person well enough to add them in yours? When you’ve traded business cards? When you’ve had a beer together? When you’ve had one too many shots of vodka together, and you wake up next morning wondering why your butt is hurting?

Haha well for one I think it is a nice marketing tool for a company. My linkedin I am connected with all of my coworkers and then sales reps that I’ve met, vendors, distribution centers, clients (depending on the relationship with them during work)

It may be a little different for most other environments but typically after a decent amount of time spend around someone it wouldn’t hurt to send a request.

If you think they could be a useful addition to your network. I have some people I haven’t seen face to face in years, but we did work together. I’d rather spend time on LinkedIn than Facebook - I use LinkedIn for business contacts, and FB for High School classmates (and the like). Of course, I’d really rather spend time here on Spiceworks than either LinkedIn or Facebook

WTH is linkedin? I assume by the responses its like facebook, which i dont have 1 of…SW is the closest thing i have to social network.

LinkedIn started as a social networking tool for business professionals. you setup an account and find other people you are actually associated with. Coworkers, former bosses,…

The deal is we can all help each other out by providing references or leads to jobs and or customers.

I’ll connect with anyone I know on LinkedIn. It’s a professional network, so I feel comfortable connecting with my boss or other executives. It’s a place where I can brag about my professional accomplishments…almost like my living, breathing resume.

If you’re worried about privacy, you can go to your account settings (upper right hand corner where your name is) and edit your visibility settings.

I help manage all Black Box’s social networking sites, so this is what I usually recommend to my colleagues. But, of course, it is ultimately up to you.

I try to keep it professionals only. Most real life friends who tries to connect with me on linkedin, I reject.

I also reject coworkers who try to befriend me on Facebook.

I see FB and LI as to completely different things, and don’t want them mixed together, just as I don’t want to hang out with coworkers on my own time.

i don’t have a lot people yet… about 20 or so, but i know every one
