What are you going to do now that they are wanting to get money for more than 10 remote desktop connections?
http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/309821-important-changes-to-logmein-free
I am just wondering if someone has found a comparable solution? I see there is many other options but nothing that beats the $200 introduction fee for using Logmein.
Is there another program out there would be cost effective or free?
I knew this was coming at some point in time cause you just can’t expect something that works well to be free for ever.

Wow, I thought Log Me in only allowed one free remote desktop.

I currently have 50 in one of my accounts.
lol you can do it the way I do it, run logmein on 10 PC’s, and run VNC on all PC’s SO I can’ remotely access a computer remotely… its awesomely slow but hell its free.

Teamviewer is inexpensive, can be used like LMI, and also offers an easy way to handle one-off requests.
Yes, a shop of one is spending $750 to do this, and anyone with more than that is spending $1,500 (more if you need more than one simultaneous connection.) but the cost isn’t that much compared to GoToAssist.

Does not affect LMI Central users, so LMI is still a tiny fraction of the price of Teamviewer.

I wouldn’t call that inexpensive. That’s 3x the unlimited user price of LogMeIn for just one user.
You have separate accounts but don’t have the access controls? Isn’t that a major security issue?

$300 if you pay for a full year, and that’s unlimited PCs in LMI… kinda hard to beat that with any other service.

Correct! Totally understand what you are saying there and I have been also saying.
But when we have been getting it for free and a very limited budget they didn’t want to spend the money.
Now we are going to spend the money and want to make sure it is the right program for supporting our users.

Yes just want to make sure there isn’t another solution out there that would be comparable for the free option.

I suggest Dameware NT Utilities. Allows you to establish a shared session with anyone on your local network.

At 50 computers that would come to roughly… $0.50 per machine per month. Not going to find another system with the features and security that you get from LMI for that price-point.

What’s wrong with Microsoft’s RDP? I have been using it for more than a decade and it works just fine for me. Of course, not as flexible as logmein but once set-up, works just fine.
Not really applicable as an LMI replacement then. It’s a good product, just not in the same category.

Mostly that its a different category of product. LMI requires no firewall configuration. It is centrally managed and works from anywhere.
HOw do you use RDP, for example, to connect to a user who is in a hotel or a customer location behind a firewall that you don’t control?

Logmein works great for your remote users or the users that are home and need assistance.
You can mimic LMI’s functionality with RDP + a really robust VPN network. Pertino + RDP, for example. But it is difficult as LMI gets you firewall traversal plus it gives you online status notification plus point to point negotiation.
