Hi,

I am launching a new IT Managed service company and looking for the right RMM solution.

I found a few articles and post discussing this already, however I think that I’m getting very biased advise and/or sales people.

I’d like to go with a web based solution.

I’m currently looking at
Solarwinds
Labtech
Kaseya

Thank you in advance.

I’ve never used Solarwinds (didn’t know they had an RMM solution). Kaseya was the first (and most expensive) package I ever used. LabTech is decent, but not as intuitive as Kaseya. PacketTrap was pretty good, but I believe it was killed off by Dell. We had to ditch it because they stopped supporting it. Naverisk is another good one I have used. Comodo is not bad, but very convoluted - similar to LabTech.

SolarWinds acquired with LogicNow/ControlNow.

Used LabTech at a previous job. Out of the box, it didn’t do much for us. There was a lot of custom programming that needed to be done to make it work the way we wanted it to, as well as setting up a bunch of automation.

Another one to look at would be Continuum.

Might also want to look at GFI Cloud…or did they rebrand as Max Focus…or ControlNow…? Geez, confusing.

They rebranded as max focus then got bought out by solarwinds.

What specifics are you looking for from the RMM package? SolarWinds acquired nable a while back and the others are great as well…depending on specific features you are looking for one may stand out from the other.

I evaluated GFI Max but it fell very short of the others. Gary actually asked the magical question - what do you intend on using it for? These are way more powerful than just remote support and reporting. At a minimum, you should expect it to generate tickets automatically when equipment goes offline and drives fill up, automate patch management, and restart services when they stop. Remote scripting (installations and removals and more), remote command prompt, remote registry access, software alerts, blacklisting/whitelisting, vital hardware statistics, etc. should be what you are looking for in RMM software.

Most of them are going to require a lot of customization in order to be running the way you want them to run. I guess the more generic they are, the more versatile they can become.

Nailed it again Jim…you can pay a higher price typically and have more “functions & features out of the box” but typically there is still going to be setup and customization etc. This should be a good start in terms to focus on what you want/need so we can help narrow your search scope with more detail.

One of the biggest problems I/we have always had with RMM software is with false alarms. Software that continuously creates tickets/issues in error is as bad as software that doesn’t even monitor. This is where the support from the vendor comes in. They have to be able to look at the product, tell you why something isn’t alerting properly, then tell you how to fix it.

I’m really not trying to take over this thread, but I just want to pass along my experience from the past 20 years.

Hi thanks guys! Wow the response time in this community is amazing!

I’d like to do everything Jim had mentioned above, that kind of covers everything an RMM tool should be able to do.

I have my heart set on Solarwinds RMM cloud tool, I just can’t get my mind on board…

A lot of expensive options listed here. Don’t overlook Comodo One. It’s free with some paid premium features (like AV). Very feature rich with patching, remote computer takeover, tickets, etc.

I’ve had their sales guys be really unhelpful, Yes they have a sales team, yes they hound you.

All the modules are completely different and the UI is never consistent (the ticket system is literally an install from another open source tool, they’ve done zero work on it, just dropped it in.

The whole tool feels like a loss leader for their MSP consortium they want people to sign up for.

What will Comodo do with all that data their free RMM is harvesting from your clients systems?..

Hi Yiddy!

Welcome to SW! As you can see everyone here is super helpful. It’s a great place to be =] I wanted to follow up on your original post and see if you had any questions about Kaseya.
