Mad Mystery Monday (UDTQ#93) - 1080pi
Happy Moonday, folks!
The Recap:
Friday’s question asked about RFC 2795, which covers IMPS, the Infinite Monkey Protocol Suite. It looks like just over 50% of you choose that option, good job! If you’re not familiar with the April 1st RFCs, or just wanted to give this one a read, check it out over on ietf.org.

The Ramble:
How often do you surprise yourself?
I ask, because I’ve always thought of myself as being very quick to adjust to new situations, locations, etc. but I feel like I’ve been relatively slow to get into a groove in my new role.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m absolutely thrilled to be here, and I fully expect that I will, but I feel like I’m taking much longer to write these daily questions than I took even while still doing my old job, for example. I used to give myself a maximum of about 45 minutes to write and post them while still going through my morning routine at the old day job, but for the past couple weeks, I don’t know that I’ve had even one of them complete within 45 minutes of starting it.
I imagine parts of it are because I’m working from home, so my workspace is also a not-work space which means my brain isn’t switching contexts the same way it did when I went into an office everyday. I’d hoped switching to a new room would help with that, but it hasn’t nearly as much as I’d hoped it would… I may need to get my sister to clear her stuff out our extra space so I can have a dedicated office space.
There’s also some behind the scenes stuff that I’m still often finding myself “looking for the zebra when [I] should be looking for a horse.” which has been a harder adjustment than I expected. I’ve done teir1 helpdesk stuff before, and I’ve trained dozens of folks to do so, but I’m having a hard time remembering some basic troubleshooting steps when I’m the one that needs to be doing them sometimes… Too long of being the “escalation admin” trained me to look for the weird one-off problems, and not to bother with the simple solutions because someone below me had already tried, I guess.
The Real Question:
I’d imagine most of us are familiar with 1080p as a resolution. Maybe even 1440p, 4k, and a few others. But how many of you have used 1080i?
What is the difference between 1080p and 1080i?
- 1080p is a newer standard than 1080i, and uses less bandwidth
- 1080i is an intermediate format used to transmit 1080p over older cables
- 1080p draws line by line, 1080i only draws every other line, drawing half of the screen per frame
- 1080p is better, because an upside down and mirrored p is a b and b is for bacon
- I’m not sure, but I’m excited to learn more!
The Rest:
If you’d like to be notified when there’s a new question, check out this How To guide on following tags! I also typically post in the General chatroom when they go live, so come hang out there too!
As always, if you have suggestions for future questions, improvements, or want to help out with a full question, shoot me a DM or leave a comment below!
And since you’re still reading this, don’t forget to leave me a spice-up just below this! If it’s not orange and filled-in like this →
it’s not spiced up yet! It lets me know you enjoy these and gives us both points, so why not?
