Hi all, I currently have 48gb ram in my HP ML350 G6 tower but I have two more sticks that came with the original ram. When I follow the HP memory configurator and install the last two sticks, the server only recognizes 40gb of ram!?!?!?!?! I powered off, unplugged and waited a few minutes and then tried unseating and reseating the ram sticks. Upon powering on the server then said it only recognized 32gb of ram! Now I’m really curious as to what is going on. Any ideas/tips/ or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

A pretty tedious job but installing one stick at a time will help you determine if its the DIMM slots or RAM.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

Is this information shown in the bios, or the os?

When you remove the sticks again and boot without them, does it show that the rest of the ram is present (all 48gb)??

It could be that the sticks that you are adding are not matched, or they may be damaged, and it may have affected the memory controller.

Also, try resetting the bios before booting into os.

{"@type":"Person
seanchatburn
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/seanchatburn"}},{"@type":"Answer

In the OS. I’m guessing that one of the sticks is damaged because I saw that it had something on it and tried to clean it with isopropyl alcohol and it came off but that stick is still giving me problems!!! Ugh! I’ll see if after I take them out if it still reports 48gb of ram! And I’ll try resetting the bios before booting into the os IF I can catch it quickly enough!! No worries. What type of substance was on the ram before you cleaned it??

It would also be prudent to note the type of ram you’re installing. The server can only support 48GB of udimm, but far more lrdimm.
