Hi iv got a fairly old mother board a asus m4a89gtd pro/usb3 i was told if i did a bios update it will be able to support am3+ socket cpu?

anyone know if this is possible?

CPU im trying to fit will be an AMD FX-6300 black edition

I would just ask asus support for a final answer.

It isn’t compatible, the pin layout is slightly different between AM3 and AM3+ I believe + has an extra pin or two.

In a nutshell you can put an AM3 CPU into an AM3+ socket but not vise versa. Sometimes a BIOS update can expand the compatible CPU list but not in this case as its a physical difference that is the problem.
