My 1st topic had some really humorous request from users. Check out the post on a poor little Bunny chewing on cables!

On the other end, let’s be fair, have you encountered one User who did something you were really thankful/grateful for? or even a simple sweet gesture of asking you out for lunch when other colleagues zone you out?

I had this particularly helpful/friendly user who acts as an IT stand in before she calls me up. When she calls me, I know it’s really the last resort, she have done everything on her part and she would tell me what she has done on her pc. Not just the usual 'PC is broken, fix it plz!" Thanks to her information, i’ll be able to fix IT issues quickly.

Just recently, I had a user email me the picture above saying the “You didn’t warn me Tape Drives would explode!” It was really fun to receive such requests once awhile.

My secret rainbow wish is that every users would be like that
(then we would be out of job right?)

Job security. I greatly appreciate each and every one of them for that.

But on a more serious note, there are some staff that either try basic troubleshooting on their part (or help other staff) prior to calling in, similar to what you stated. Very helpful in figuring out the problem and assisting with others that may be less tech-friendly.

Then there are the staff that usually have some candy or some form of food… recently got a nice big plate of cookies as a bribe…

I’m thankful for users that try re-booting before contacting helpdesk (and then not need to do so)

Keeping me employed.

Let’s face it, depending on the particular place you work at, in this day and age - there really is no job security any longer.

When the close their own tickets b/c they fixed it themselves.

Appreciate the standard user? I appreciate them because sometimes I get a good laugh and at other times I get a few facepalms… But honestly, I can understand my users didn’t go into a computer related field and I try my best to walk them through activities. It’s the ones that don’t want to learn that I can never appreciate.

I gotta echo job security… Also the treats and food that is brought by my desk for helping them.

I always appreciate some of the out-of-the-blue questions - that either break up my routine - or make me have to do some real thinking.

I appreciate out of the blue questions that don’t turn into weeks of my time to research them.

I had one user leave a sticky note on my desk one day that said:

"everything is working well keep up the good work. Thanks"

No problems listed, he didn’t need anything; just a note of encouragement. It is now permanently on my wall

Things like this ^^^.

I’ve had users compliment me on how nice things are running… and I’ve even got some cards, and notes saying ‘Thanks’ or 'you’re doing great!"… these top everything for me.

Everything.

I was waiting for someone who said users have written a “thank you” to the IT administrator. we got a few!

President of a small company I used to work for asked me to look at his ex-wife’s laptop. I said sure and took a look at it. Removed some malware and cleaned it up, took maybe an hour (of company time). He comes by my desk to get it and ask me if I would like for him to pick me up some lunch on his way back from taking it to her. I thanked him for the offer but I had already ordered lunch. Later, he comes back from delivering the computer and hands me a large sack with a six pack of Blue Moon and a six pack of Sam Adams. I really appreciated that.
