As the title suggest looking to buy a router for a small business. Looking for standard routing protocols…OSPF, VLANs, dot1q, etc…

We have a Linkysys SGE2010p switch, so I have been looking at the Cisco RV320 as an option. Anyone have personal experience with it? Also looked at the Ubiquti EdgeMax stuff. We have the Unifi Wifi stuff, so I thought I would give them a chance.

Prefer to have the Cisco stuff, but defiantly open to any suggestions!

Thanks!

@Cisco

Avoid anything Cisco Small Business - I’d personally try the EdgeMax one, as I have been looking to pick one up for home to replace my crafty DDWRT 54G.

On a serious note, I’ve personally never had good luck with any Cisco Small Business equipment, their higher end stuff is great but lower end not so much.

The RV320 works great, but you can always use more ports. Look into the RV325 more lan ports. I like it better in my opinion.

Ubiquiti EdgeMax running Brocade Vyatta. Definitely where I would head first. Cheaper and way, way more enterprise than the other gear you are considering.

If both were free, Ubiquiti over Cisco. Palo Alto and probably Juniper over the Ubiquiti, but certain not Cisco. At least not until you are spending tens of thousands for large, dedicated routers.

After just watching the Promo Vid lol Ubiquiti wins

I appreciate everyone’s input. Scott, you bring a very valid point. Based on this information, I think I will investigate the Ubiquti option a little more. Are you suggesting running that router with Brocade software?

Neil8736…after that video…Im so down with Ubiquiti! hahaha!

I’m a one man show at a SMB.

We use Untangle.

I really like it.

Free is always a plus.

We run it in an old PC with dual gigabit NICs.

Alcatel-Lucent line is where I would check out, I gotta contact not that expensive and feature packed as well as a good competitor of other’s.

I suggest pfSense, I found a second hand Watchguard Firebox for 50$ and installed it on it. Works perfectly.

I’d take an old 2811 over small business Cisco personally. I picked up one super-cheap at a school district auction last month but I had to know somebody to be able to bid.

Hello, FultonM11. We really appreciate that you are considering Cisco as one of your options for this requirement. The RV320 and RV325 are indeed one of our latest SMB VPN Router/Firewall that also supports third party VPN clients (like GreenBow). Send me a message if you need to know local Cisco support, other concerns or quote. Kind regards.

pfsense on one of there new hardware appliances.
