I am not sure when this started, but new computers are not showing up in my inventory. I tried to search for them by serial number and it came back with no results. Any ideas?

2 Spice ups

Firewall on the clients

If the scanner cannot ping the machine it assumes nothing is there or its off and moves on

All of my computers have the Windows Firewall turned off by Group Policy.

Can’t say that’s a great move but it’s your systems.

So back to my questions, can your SW server actually ping them

Yes, I can ping the machines from the SW server.

So lets try something

ping DNSNameofmachine

Ping -a IPreturned

Do they match?

I have seen this happen if the DNS forward and reverse did not match for whatever reason. I have also had to run the command from step 4 of the link to get around UAC
https://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/40584-configure-windows-firewall-and-uac-to-allow-spiceworks-scans

Even with the firewall off, there are some additional registry settings for WMI remote management that likely need to be turned on.

Hmm that looks to be almost identical to what I post often. But it does work

Stale DNS entries are the cause of many issues

The stale DNS has got me more than once. Usually first thing I check when my scan fails.

Yes, they match. I guess I need to give you additional information. I have had this installation for years and have never had an issue with machines being able to talk to the SW server. This just started recently.

Yes, information is going to be required.

Lets start with the basics.
Does SW see them at all, when you scan, does it find a device on that IP?
Does it inventory them but fail to get all the information or does it skip them all together?

When I search in Spiceworks for the IP address I get No Results Found. It does not seem to be seeing it at all even though I can ping it by name and address from the SW server.

You jumped ahead there, I didn’t ask you if it was in SW, I asked if it’s scanning it.

Go to settings, inventory, device scanning - the range these devices are on, is it listed and not disabled?

If so tick that range and scan it, watch the scan, does your machine appear in the list, does the IP it’s on light up?

If the range isn’t there, add it.

If the range is there, but nothing is found, disable all your ranges, add that device by DNS name manually, and scan it on it’s own - what does the scan say?

I rebooted the SW server and all is well now.
