When performing an inventory of my netwok I am getting this message on 2 of my computers. I can successfully “manage” the remote computers from the Spiceworks computer. All firewalls are off (spiceworks and remote computer). There are no intervening devices, they are on the same LAN segment. Running the wmic test yields error code: 0x800706ba (RPC server is unavailable). Remote admin is on and I can successfully run the same command to my 2003 server. It is an XP and vista workstation that is not reponding. Both devices are in the same domain.
I don’t understand why I would be able to remotely run Computer Management to a device but not be able to inventory it. Especially with all firewalls turned off and no antivirus running on one of the computers.

is the WMI service running? are you SURE there are no software firewalls blocking?
Is there a significant delay when you try to connect via Computer Management?
In some cases the WMIC times out, especially if you are running AV software on the remote device.
For good measure you might also want to delete the devices from your Inventory and allow them to be rescanned. The problem could be routing/name resolution related.
Does everything look ok in the DNS checkup tab?
