I have Dell desktop computers that SpiceWorks is not detecting in its scans. I have about 25 total dells, of the same make and setup, on my network and its only shwoing me 5 of them. Is there something I can do to get it to see the other 20 or find out why its not detecting them?

  • cmd
  • ping the_name_off_a_machine
  • do you get a reply?

OK so ping didn’t work first time, checked and windows firewall was blocking the request. Adjusted windows firewall to allow echo, vrfy ping was working, did scan and still didnt show. Went back and disabled windows firewall all together and did another scan and still not showing in inventory. Not sure what to do from here.

Edit: Oh and the IP is in the scan range.

You can ping it from the server now then? (rather than local machine)

Did you use an image when you deployed all those systems? If so then you might not have change the SIDS on each machine. You could try installing “newsid” from microsoft, then run it on one of the systems and try to rescan & see if it picks it up. NewSID - Sysinternals | Microsoft Learn

Im not sure Spiceworks cares about the SIDS?

Spiceworks needs more than just ping to completely access and scan your remote Windows devices. I would recommend running this command on your remote devices, or enabling it via GP:

c:> netsh firewall set service remoteadmin enable

Thank you Ben, that did it. To be honest I looked at that page and went right by it as it says its for devices that show as “Unknowns” and since my devices didn’t show at all I kept looking for an answer else where.
