Hi all,

I’ve just done a fresh install of Windows 10 for a customer as it was riddled with malware.

They have a office 365 subscription and I thought it would be nice to reinstall it for them and let them sign in to licence it at their leisure.

Do Microsoft offer an offline installer for this or can I use my own 365 subscription (without activating with my account)?

I think there’s a trial version, but if your user has a nonprofit / education / government / other special type of licene that is not retail, then they’ll have to uninstall and reinstall anyway.

I would put a shortcut to Portal.office.com on their desktop and remind them to do it.

You can download the office deployment tool and configure it to install various pieces of the office suite. After installed, Office prompts for activation the first time it’s run and you just have the user enter their O365 credentials at that time.

Very simple:

  1. Download/extract the deployment tool (click-to-run)
  2. customize the .xml file for your needs
  3. run: setup.exe /download config.xml
  4. run: setup.exe /configure config.xml
  5. This will install in the background and when it’s done you’ll have everything installed
    This way you don’t need to know their login to download the customized installer from their subscription.
