Hope someone can help because this is driving me crazy! I have installed Office service pack 2 on my vista machine. Now everytime outlook opens it crashes. The only way I can get it to work is if I remove the profile.xml file from the roaming profile outlook folder. I have tried removing the profile and recreating but still can’t find a perminant solution to this.

Any help will be apprieciated

Chris,

Are you using some kind off (non-MS) plug-ins? We use attachment processor e.g. and this might cause some instability on some of our systems.

Chris,

Make sure that you have downloaded and applied all your updates for Office, after SP2. Sometimes just applying an update can make a world of difference. As well, have you tried reinstalling Outlook? There could have been a problem with the integration of SP2 with Office, when it was installed.

Delete the .ost file if cached mode is on and try starting up Outlook after that.

Just uninstalled office, rebooted, installed then service packed, but still doing same! Does anyone know what the %profile%.xml file is used for?

Finally fixed it. I found the profile.xml file is to do with the navigation pane in outlook. I went to the navigation pane options and removed the icons. Now it boots up perfectly. Strange I know but… “if it works don’t fix it”

Thanks anyways
