Just a small rant as its a rainy Monday and I don’t have the energy for a big one.
Spent/spending my day entering pay codes, accrual policies, job policies, etc. into a new time tracking system we have here. I feel its a bit odd for IT to do this, especially since I have to often ask what the heck the crap means in the first place. The system is set to roll out shortly and I keep prepping the admins for bad weather. Not to mention, I also have to train all the staff on how to use the clocks and systems in 1 days time after assigning and labeling all the new cards for these guys. That part I expected at least.
Maybe I’m a little perturbed since I was suppose to be evaluated months ago and was told of a raise. But that hasn’t happened and probably won’t for several more months.
I know I know, be happy to have the job and I am. Its just one of the pain in the rear days and them telling me I could be getting more money and then not giving it to me, well that’s just made me sour I suppose.
The one good thing I like about things like this being handed by IT is that it makes them more valuable.
Thanks for the ear!

That’s the way I see a lot of what’s assigned to me.
A lot of what I do is outside of my job description but, the more “jack-of-all-trades” you are, the less expendable that you become! (At least, I hope…)

Good luck on that raise, it’s a carrot that gets dangled until you walk. It’s one I’ve been bitter about for years now.

Yep, the more you know how to do where you are, the more valuable you become. Plus, when it comes time to support all this stuff, you will have a good feel for how it all works.

This is the world of IT for those of us not in the big corporations.

Lol, I’ve never gotten a raise. In my life.
Once, they told me that I was getting a cost of living adjustment, but it turned out I hadn’t quite been here a year, and I found out next pay period that I had been excluded. Lol.
edit: I still <3 my job
As I’m entering this stuff, I’m “exposed” to the pay rates of most everyone in the company. On a few of em, I’ve audibly said WTF!
Mage, I’de give you a raise from some of their pay if I could.

Unfortunately it’s our lot in life to fix things and pick up the pieces for those that can’t. I wish I could sell (OK, not really) because then I’d be able to make some real money and not have to care about delivery after the fact - that’s IT’s problem

I would do my job just for the free coffee. If they want to get rid of me, they’ll have to wheel my chair out the door with me in it. Because it’s my chair.

Keep on them about the raise. You’re lowering the median salary for the rest of us!
RHT & Modis both have salary guides that might help you gauge your worth.
Meanwhile, IT is the catchall. We fix stuff.

That’s a key factor for me. The only jobs I try to avoid for IT here are the manual admin ones that are just processing forms. Everything else comes in handy.
