Hey guys, I work for a startup company and we are trying to find the cheapest alternative to being able to roll-out updates, program installs and monitor existing programs on our users PC’s. We have about 150 PC’s that we would like to do this with. I was looking at the Free version of PDQ Deploy but I’m not 100% sure if this will be enough for us. Does anyone have any insight or used this version before? Do we install this on our Domain Controller or can we install it on a separate server and get the same results, what is preferred? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

I used the free version for 150 machines for several years before upgrading. I can fairly confidently say that yes, it will do what you need. I’ll also say that it is worth upgrading.

You can install it on any domain computer you want, and I would recommend avoiding your DC, I never put anything on a DC if i can avoid it.

Also, It’s free, so if you try it and don’t like it, what have you lost?

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

If I install it on a standalone server will the Free version of PDQ Deploy still communicate back with AD and pick up all of the domain PC’s?

{"@type":"Person
lazaromartinez
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/lazaromartinez"}},{"@type":"Answer

Yes, it will. You can also import from Spiceworks, CSV, or manually type them in. I think there are a few other options also, but I don’t have the console open right now.

{"@type":"Person
thomascarlin2090
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/thomascarlin2090"}},{"@type":"Answer

We use the free version. It has been great for us.

{"@type":"Person
ericcain2
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/ericcain2"}},{"@type":"Answer

PDQ Deploy can be installed on your PC only and you can push out software to the others as long as the account specified that installs the software is in the local admin group of the clients.

PDQ Deploy free is good to have but overall management of the clients I would get LanSweeper or GoverLAN. They are not too bad in price.

{"@type":"Person
jagowu
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/jagowu"}},{"@type":"Answer

PDQ Deploy free is good, but the paid version gives you so much more at such a cheap price it is worth looking into. Also it is worth looking into equally cheap PDQ Inventory, the two together make for a very robust system.

For instance we push an exe and bat file to our computers, if for any reason either of those are deleted off the system, Inventory detects that and repushes out the files needed. All automatic, no effort needed. With both products together it is really just, setup it up once and never have to touch or worry about it again.

{"@type":"Person
GDaddy
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/GDaddy"}},{"@type":"Answer
