I have been looking at PDQ Deploy to manage upgrades, (non-Windows) for about 15 machines including servers.

Has anyone used this and if so, your thoughts. Also, are there any other recommendations for a software that is less expensive but of equal quality … if any?

there is not anything better than pdq.

Are you only looking at PDQ Deploy or does this include Inventory too? I used the Free version of PDQ Deploy and Inventory, and recently started using the Enterprise edition of Deploy and Pro edition of Inventory. They have been working amazingly well and have used it for the pre-made packages available in the Package Library, as well as for custom packages. Is there a specific edition you are looking at or features that you would need or prefer to have? Plus, their support is great and they provide a lot of tutorials and in-depth information about their features.

I can’t think of anything that I have personally used that would be of equal quality for the same or lesser expense. As a potential alternative, I have not used it, but I have heard good things about Local Update Publisher

There are, but at nowhere near that price point.

PDQ has saved us so much time and shoe leather. If it can be scripted / batched or CMD’d then PDQ will do it.

Manageengine Desktop Central is free for 25 computers. I’ve used it only a little, but I like it quite a bit. For example, deploying the recent Flash updates was simple. It downloaded the Flash installers for me, and deployed them on a schedule I chose. With PDQ you’ll have to download the updates, add them to the repository, configure the package, verify the install command switches, etc… A bit more work than Managenegine.

Manageengine has nice reporting as well.
