Hey folks,

So, my work allows for music to be played while I’m at my desk. I usually go on YouTube, find some piano or something classical and let a playlist do its thing. But lately I’ve been wanting to mix it up. So I’ve come to you!

I’m curious - what kind of music, if any, do you SpiceHeads play at work? And what sites do you find are the best for this?

Thanks!

Slacker or Pandora on the phone. I listen to a lot of stand up comedy, metal, and indie/intellectual hip hop as I’m working on stuff. Weird mix, I know.

I have SiriusXM in my car and pay $2 per month to allow me to listen to it on the internet. I usually keep the channel on 80’s on 8 but will listen to classic vinyl, classic rewind and hair nation.

No choice here have Hits playing on a loop all through out the day, so I bring headphones and just listen to Absolute Radio online.

I use my Spotify Premium subscription. I’ve paid for it since 2012, then let it lapse for a month, then won a year’s free subscription to it. The library is pretty impressive. It’s rare that I want to listen to something that isn’t in there.

Plus… the premium version allows you to stream at 320 Kb, advance releases (I don’t make use of this feature, really.) and allows you offline access via any devices you have hooked up to it, which is a major bonus when you’re travelling without wifi

I do a music subscription service via XBOX Music…it has come a long way and it actually is quite good and useful.

Generally into Alt/Indie Christian Music but I mix in 80’s, Rush, Midnight Oil, They Might Be Giants and Steely Dan…oh, I did listen to Pink Floyd’s The Wall today…not sure what came over me…LOL

Depends on my mood. If I’m looking for something specific, I usually use Grooveshark.

Otherwise, I’ll just google a radio station and listen to that.

We listen to Pandora or a couple of good rock stations on iHeartRadio (particularly Rock 105.3 in San Diego & 105.5 WDHA out here in New Jersey).

We have a rotation of ipods in the office and a policy of no complaining about others as people might not like your own. As long as its not offensive or opera anything goes.

If you like cool piano stuff,

Load pandora, type: The Thinker

It’s from an album by Gary Girouard, “Naked Piano”.

His music and the others played by Pandora is great. I study to it all the time.

Also, Pandora + big fish soundtrack

Good stuff.

I use the free version of Spotify. A few other people in the office do as well.

Usually switch between podcasts and Pandora. Depends on my mood.

We have the radio on in the office and listen to a station that plays a good mix of current and older music, so appeals to everyone’s tastes and doesn’t repeat the same stuff every hour.

There’s also a healthy bit of rivalry at 10:30 when the music quiz comes on!

Usually Pandora on my phone with an acoustic/indie/piano mix. Helps me think.

I use Songza on my phone and listen to new Rock while at my desk.

I keep stuff on the phone since I like old showtunes, radio theater, and soundtracks.

Nice! Great suggestions! I like the idea of a music quiz too… maybe I can convince people here to take part… I’ll be checking out Songza and Pandora for sure. And thanks bpackard, I’ll be looking into that asap!
