What do you listen to when the weather is gloomy out? Raining, cloudy, etc.

I tend to gravitate toward slower piano or smooth jazz on rainy drives, and at work. My usual classic rock and country driving music just doesn’t feel right in the rain.

2 Spice ups

The black keys album - Brothers is great rainy day music. It’s got a real blues-y feel to it. I pop it in when I’m driving into work in the rain.

Usually something driving and grooving, latin style or rock to push up my mood and work against the cloudy day mood depression. Carlinhos Brown - the album Alfagammabetizado is just right for this occasion. Or Jaya the cat - First beer of the day if you are more into rock.

In a rather Gumpian thought, I think it somewhat depends on the type of rain.

Sometimes, the rain pushes me towards Coltrane or Johnny Hartman, while other days, The Doors or even Tori Amos seem proper. Then again, it’s hard to find a “wrong” time for Joe Strummer & The Meseclaros “Streetcore” record…but maybe that’s just me…

Disintegration by the Cure. Rainbird by Love and Rockets works. Anything by Concrete Blonde.

Black Sabbath, Elysian Fields (with Jennifer Charles), ZoeGirl, Mike Patton, Skillet and Thousand Foot Crutch all bring internal sunshine to my rainy days…and some Zappa anytime helps out too!

bird is the word!

I’d have to say my music mood on a rainy day goes 2 ways. i am either in a low key sleepy/sad mood so i crank up:

-my mourning jacket

-bright eyes

-the decemberists (especially the piquresque album)

-postal service

-MGMT

-Elliot Smith

-Pete Yorn

-manchester orchestra

-Rilo Kiley

Or i listen to a lot of more aggressive music such as:

-between the buried and me

-sky eats airplane

-old ADTR

-Dance Gavin Dance

-bring me the horizon

-in fear and faith

-Bayside

-Brand New (either Deja Entendu or God and the Devil are Raging Inside Me)
