I’m looking to pair a Fortiswitch and a single FortiAP with a FortiGate 61F. What models would you recommend? They can be new or used - just looking for a switch and AP whose capabilities are most closely aligned with the 61F. I’m not super familiar with the Fortinet ecology so the array of different switches and APs is a bit bewildering to me!

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

depending on what else needs to be connected to the switch. How many ports do you need? if you need less then 12 ports then the FortiSwitch-108F-FPOE will work if you need 24 then the FortiSwitch-224D-FPOE and for 48 ports the FortiSwitch-248E-FPOE. we have been using these switches for our smaller customers and the 400 series for the larger customers. For the AP we have been using the Fortinet FortiAP 231G.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

My experience with the FortiVerse is that any and all of them will work together just fine. Your energy would be better spent looking for what features you want, then finding the hardware that supports those.

Do you want redundant power for the switch? Dedicated console port? How much PoE budget?

What features do you want in your wireless? Wi-Fi 5, 6, 7? Throughput?

Once you get those components together, the FGT can manage them all in a single stack.

{"@type":"Person
AdmiralKirk
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/AdmiralKirk"}},{"@type":"Answer

For the switch, 12 ports is probably too few - 24 would work leaving room for a bit of expansion. 48 ports is overkill right now but if I found a good deal and it had the right features, I would not rule it out. It needs a couple (3 or 4) PoE+ ports - I think 802.3at would be fine but I’ll have to double check. A dedicated console port would be good but is not strictly necessary.

For the AP - Wi-fi 6 is needed, 6E would be great but not necessary, Wi-fi 7 is not necessary at this time. Internal antennas and powered by PoE for maximum flexibility in repositioning as needed. It needs to be able to power an area of roughly 2300-2400 sq ft (~40x60), single-story.

{"@type":"Person
elitehuskarl
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/elitehuskarl"}}]}}
