There’s a nationwide “recruiting company” that has a number of listings that look pretty nice.

They have their own little site that’s nicely designed, and some jobs show up on that.

However, I also get emails from them listing jobs that fit my skill set. That tends to be all over the place, some are linking to dice.com or linkedin’s listings, some are linking to employer sites, some are linking to some jobs board that I’ve never seen. Some are even duplicates from the different job sites.

So, these guys don’t seem to me as much a recruiting company as much as they are a job posting aggregator. Has anyone had this experience? Should I just ignore them as spam? I don’t really need to get a recruiter that’s basically working for another recruiter who’s working for my potential employer, right?

It just seems an odd way to do business, so I’m hoping someone knows what I’m missing.

We get this all the time. The recruiters are actually sales people; they work on commission so get paid when they place someone. Most of the time, they have limited to no IT technical knowledge.

In many cases, 2 or 3 people are trying to recruit for the same job. They’ll say that they have an “exclusive” arrangement with the client, but they often don’t.

Watch out for the really scummy ones; they’ll take your details because you are obviously looking to move on, then a couple of months later, send some C.V.s to your employer for a replacement for your role!

I think you hit the nail on the head and they are the Trivago of head hunters. If you can follow links back to the original offering post follow back and start there.

I delete 95% of the job emails I get because it is spam. It’s to jobs in different states. Just treat it as spam, report it and continue on with your day.

Thanks, I thought this was the case. Some of the postings seem so poorly screened I would think they’re really just an organization trying to build phishing profiles.

Unless I am actively working with a recruiter, I delete it as a rule. I’ve had a few random reach outs that sound good and I’ve responded, one actually worked out and I was there for 9 years. (the job turned out to be a far cry from advertised, but that wasn’t the recruiter, it was the company)

If the role sounds really good, I’ll go direct to the company and apply there, stripping out the middle man.

Agree with all. I usually get 4 or 5 emails from 4 or 5 people all about the same job. And don’t forget the State Farm offers!!

99% of the job offers I get are almost always for someplace other than the Denver/Front Range area. Those automatically get dumped. Only those from the local area (and I already know who they are) are saved and looked at. I’ve got one guy I liket o talk back and forth to. One fine day he’s going to catch me in the right mood, with the right money, and I’m going to say, “Heck yes, I’m interested.”
