This has got me pondering, at my work the only remote access software we have is VNC. Fantastic software if I do say so myself. My curiosity was peaked when we had a power line knock us out and I was receiving phone calls from the people who monitor us when the office is closed. Got me wondering, is it possible to remotely log in via a work domain? Is that possible to join remotely and then use VNC viewer?

Or is there a free option to do remote access?

I was using LogMeIN free but it was apparently under a trial period.

Use Logmein Free. Opt out of the trial for PRO and you should be good to go.

Teamviewer is my favorite. It is free and there is a portable edition. It also has a nice machine manager like Dameware.

LogMeIn is a great option, it is free and works very well. Like Kyle said just opt out of the free Pro trial and just go witht he free version.

Well ok that said, is there a limit to how many computers you can put it on?

Teamviewer is also my favorite. There is a free version and a paid version for businesses with a lot of features. You can set up an account for automatic remote sessions or a password for each computer among other security settings. I use Teamviewer all the time to connect to a domain computer then login with the Vsphere client or RDP’s. It’s the fastest and most secure free remote tool I’ve seen.

I VPN into the network and then use remote desktop for the local machines. Teamviewer and LogMeIn are fantastic for helping remote users.

Teamviewer is NOT FREE for business use, only for personal use.

VNC is unencrypted unless you use UltraVNC with encryption enabled, and then you have to have a port forwarded on your company router. LogMeIn Free works by connecting the client outbound to LMI’s servers, and you can use the LMIFree license forever (for now) for business purposes.

No limit, but managing more than a few (10-20) computers in a LMI Free account is painful. LogMeIn Central is the way to go, but it’s a few hundred dollars a year. With LMI Central you can organize your computers much more easily.
