Hi,

I am new to Spiceworks and am looking to use this product as network monitoring for multiple clients. The Central Host for my SW is on my laptop. Am I able to monitor multiple networks using the remote agent tool even though my Laptop will not be on the individual netowrk of each client?

When you say “Network Monitoring”, what specifically are you trying to accomplish? I wouldn’t use the Spiceworks Desktop as a monitoring tool - it’ really isn’t intended for that, so I’d like to better understand your goals.

Well the remote agent is to be able to inventory PCs on the network for each site and then I would use the spiceworks network monitor to monitor the networks. Pretty much I am looking to start a business an an MSP and was hoping to be able to spiceworks to inventory multiple netoworks remotely and monitor the networks using the SW network monitoring tool.

I see. You might instead consider putting a remote site at each location for the agents to connect to and then having a central server somewhere that isn’t your laptop - it’s a more reliable setup. And, Network Monitor should not go on the same box as the Spiceworks Desktop, to be safe.

So let’s say I went that route:

I would have to install an instance of spiceworks desktop at each client location and turn it into a remote site–> install the agents on each individual machine at the location–> point it to the remote site–> then the remote site points back to my central server which doesn’t need to be onsite?

That is ideal. But, you don’t necessarily need to use agents - your remote sites can do the scanning for you if you can open the right ports and firewall rules. Deploying agents just tends to be easier, but scanning would allow you to inventory more systems and potentially catch things that dynamically appear on your network.
