I have two offices and I setup Spiceworks on a machine in my Central office. I wanted to establish a remote collector in my Remote office so that the majority of the data collection and scanning could be done there instead of over the wire. I set it up and connected it. It started scanning and added devices to my inventory that were already there. Once it started doing that, I uninstalled it and stared the process of finding an deleting the phantom devices. My question is will Spcieworks reconcile the devices that I have scanned with the devices it detects on the Remote Collector? Also, is there an easy way to export the password information and accounts used for scanning to import into the remote collector?

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

Hi William,

The way the scanning works is Spiceworks classifies devices using the Serial Number, then MAC address, then lastly an IP Address if the other two are not found. However, if Spiceworks scans a machine and notices it has the same serial (or MAC or IP), then it will realize that device has already been scanned and is the same device, so it will merge the records.

To alleviate the issue you are seeing, make sure that those devices are getting fully scanned in with no scan errors and you shouldn’t see any duplicates.

As for your second question, there isn’t a way to export scan settings from one install to another at this time.

I hope that helps but let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer
