This is my first exposure and installation to Spiceworks. I installed the Central installation, setup portal on remote, open firewall ports and followed instructions on spiceworks site. Cannot connect from my remote controller to my Central Installation. Open all required ports ie - 9675, 443 but get “Server not responding” What am I not doing right?

Thanks

Make sure you completed all the steps in this How-To.

Did you make sure that you setup forwarding in your firewall so that incoming requests from the Remote Site are forwarded to your Spiceworks server correctly?

Yes I configured that on both sides. Not sure why I cannot connect. I’ve forwarded port for several applications before but just having a heck of a time getting this to work. Maybe missing something small.

What windows version you are using? i mean whats the version of your server and your workstations? Try to disable firewall or forward port through command prompt. Sometimes it does not achieve with GUI interfaces. Try it.

Hello,

Central Installation is on Windows 2008 Server and I’m configuring it on Windows 7 64Bit. I have disable the firewall before but it still didn’t work. I will try that again and see if something happens.

Hi Floyd,

Just in case this hasn’t been resolved yet, make sure the following are true for both sites:

  1. Both installations should be running on the same ports (9675 and 9676 or 80 and 443 for HTTP and HTTPS traffic respectively)

  2. Make sure you have port forwarding set up through both site firewalls - you will need two way traffic to and from each install in order for the RCs to work

  3. The best test that the sites are working as they should is to make sure that you can access the Central Site’s URL through the remote site and vice versa.

If you are still having issues after verifying the following, let me know and I can grab some logs from you to take a look at what other issues there may be. Thanks!
