Tell us a little more about your setup…
If you’re looking for something that you can use for remote work within the same network, what about UltraVNC or something similar?
If you’re looking for something a little more broad in scope/coverage, what about TeamViewer?
If you get LogMeIn Central, you can still deploy the free version

We use Bomgar (which is far from free) but if you take a really close look at it (Windows, Unix, Android, iPhone and BlackBerry support), strong security and all the wonderful things it can do (even as a presentation tool) you might want to consider making the investment. Personally I don’t know how we ever got along without it
I know you are looking for something “free” and often even high-end, costly solutions like this end up being effectively “free” in the end as they can save you every dollar that they cost.

I like Bomgar as well though it is also nowhere near free. TeamViewer is also a great alternative. Steer clear of GoToMeeting for this type of application. UAC in Windows will create more grief than it’s worth with GoToMeeting.
I was in the same situation. We used to install logmein free with logmein central on most of our business client’s computers for access but it didn’t have all the features we wanted and it didn’t make sense to drop $50.00 for computers we may only access a few times a year. We also wanted something that we could very simply login to residential users computers without them having to install anything. We are currently testing out ScreenConnect which needs no installation and love it so far. One of the downsides and upsides at the same time is that it needs to be hosted on your own equipment but that also means no reoccurring fees.
I haven’t noticed Bomgar and that product sounds very interesting as well so I’ll be checking that out as well.
I recommend taking a look at Techinline as a possible alternative:

Techinline is considered to be an easy to use and cost-effective alternative to some of the complex and expensive remote support tools on the market (ie LogMeIn Rescue) and therefore our customer-base primarily consists of SMB IT pros. I’m available at your convenience to provide any information you may need in order to determine whether Techinline is the right fit for your needs!

@RHUB Communications Inc. 's TurboMeeting provides remote support/access features in a server like @Bomgar for less than half the price. Admittedly the Bomgar interface is slicker, but you can get the same things done with RHUB.
Remote Utilities is free for business use on up to 10 remote PCs.
