Logmein Free - No longer available,  is there alternitives ?

As of this morning the Logmein service is no longer available for free, It is now a pro only service. As I am in a small business and paying for rarely used services are hard to justify , is there any alternatives that are compatible for remote access, other than setting up VPN connections?

A bit of warning would have been good, so users could plan, get budgetary approval for upgrades etc.

I’m personally not affected (yet!) as I run Logmein Central, but can imagine a lot of people will be.

I just got the email today , saying it has stopped today. so no warning etc. just the website not responding , and unable to connect to anything. so I cant even implement alternatives. maybe its a business plan, you need to subscribe to install the alternative

Just click on the X in the top right corner of the message, the message will close and you’ll get access to your remote devices.

Well I think a little more notice would have been nice. They gave us a least a few months last year before making Logmein Central a requirement for 10 PC’s or more in an account. I also notice Logmein Ignition has left the web site (which combined with Central is what use use in my new job).

30 days would have been preferred notice, but seriously, guys, can any of you honestly say you haven’t been waiting for this to happen? A for-profit company can only offer free stuff for a finite period of time before it becomes financially unwise.

Also: If it works, pay for it. #seriously

I have a Rescue subscription, and will be giving serious thought to a Central subscription as well.

*Edit (1/24):* I posted the above before having a full picture of the horrid way LMI has handled this.

I will NOT be continuing service with LMI and have in fact signed up for the six-month GoToMyPC trial. The way LMI handled this announcement - from the lack of notice to the horrid community engagement right on through the no-notice charging of credit cards with the new Central subscription fees - was, at best, questionable.

For me this sucks bigtime.There is no way I can get around to all my relatives, clients etc… to still provide them with the level of service they expect/pay for/deserve in 7 days! That’s why I use remote service is because I can’t get to them in a timely manner in the first place for onsite general consulting. Seeing the way they went about it, I wouldn’t even consider signing up with them for pro.

I have purchased logmein for company laptops, but used the free for a couple of PCs in remote locations.

I guess I shouldn’t be complaining about them canceling the free service, but I would have liked more than a 7 day warning (which I received today)
