Hello Spice Heads!
I have been tossing around the idea of trying to start a side business. One of the products I would like to offer is managed services, however I need some advice on an RMM solution. I have checked into 2 solutions so far both have minimum monthly commitments, which are to much at this point. I looked into Comodo One which for being a free solution I was impressed by, however when I created my account the RMM didn’t even show up on the platform. I know Comodo doesn’t get amazing reviews, however I would still like to try it if I could get the RMM to work. I do know that some people use Spiceworks to render their services, however I am a little unsure how they are doing so. Do they have a box running Spiceworks in each environment? Regardless does anyone have any knowledge they would like to pass along? I am looking for a solution that would either be free just so I could get started or that had either no minimum / very low minimum monthly commitment. As always thanks for your time.

you aren’t going to get an RMM solution that’s free, period.
I used GFI Max, which I find very good for managed services, and has good low cost add ons like cloud backup, content filtering, and AV. the workstation caps at $1.50, AV is $1, web $1, backup $1. you can mix and match. servers I think are $15 for all sorts of reporting. costs are monthly in NZ, may be different where you are.
web portal with a single pane of glass dashboard works very well. also patch management is brilliant - so you can monitor updates (not just M$) and deploy. I am pretty happy with it overall
the only thing they did recently that p!ss#d me off is to charge a platform fee of $50 on top of the monitoring, which is annoying as I only have about 25 workstations and 2 servers I use to manage. so made it a bit more expensive but still persevering
no setup costs, all cloud based. 30 day free trial. also has built in remote access which is handy if you don’t already use TV, SC or something.
I have used labtech in the past but they are expensive to setup and use.
my 2c worth, hope it helps

The best bang for the buck for us is ControlNow.
If you get more advanced, have more customers, and can hire people with programming experience, NCentral or Kaseya are good bets for larger client bases. Those platforms require a good deal of time on a regular basis to learn and customize.
My 2c.

is there any monthly minimums with gfi max or control now?
when I signed up for GFIMax the monthly minimum was $50, as I say since then they have a “platform fee” which is another $50, which annoyed me (still does)
best contact them for your pricing could be less, pay more for less in NZ always
Hi Brendan,
I’d like to confirm that there is no longer a monthly minimum - there is only the platform fee of $50 per month.
There is no minimum fee for ControlNow.
Any questions please let me know.

I tried Comodo One sometime back and didn’t have issues but that doesn’t mean it isn’t having problems now. Or, maybe you were just unlucky enough to sign up during an upgrade or some other jazz that whacked it out for a bit. I did just try to sign in earlier today and couldn’t but that’s most likely because they locked my account for being inactive. I ordered some device management licenses and asked the guy to check into my account. He’s been very helpful so far. If you want I can refer you to the guy. Maybe he can sort it out and provide you some good information.
