Usually I just put them on hold and they hang up. Today I was cranky from lack of sleep and I told them…
scammer “This is windows support calling are you the owner of the computer.”
i say “No, and I am not buying anything you are selling, not doing anything on the computer, or giving you any infromation at all. Please stop calling me.”
I did want to tell them to f off, but I kept it civil despite only1 hour of sleep.
Now I need to make a log entry for my relief to tell her to be aware of this, since she’s less off a skeptic than I am. Geez its gonna be a long shift. 2 hrs down 8 hrs to go.

Note the calling number. Put it in a place where people can see it and exact revenge on your behalf.
Go back to sleep.
Or, answer call with “Hi, this is the Security Department of $Something. Please be aware that all calls are recorded and will be traced in the event of suspect activity”

I love it when Microsoft call me to fix my computer. Last time they called I had a load of spare time so when they asked me to go to their website to sort out the ‘viruses’ on my computer I told them my “internet was broken”. I then got them to spend the next hour trying to fix my router and network. After an hour of them telling me to try various things I put them out of their misery and told them I was an IT Tech and I knew they were scammers, at that point they said “oh!” and hung up.

Our phone system doesn’t support caller ID, sadly.
Usually the caller ID is a fake number anyway. It is for the scammers trying to give me a free vacation on my cell phone.
I want to mess with them but never have time. Too much work to get done. Or sleep since I work night shift

I’m still waiting for one to call me so I can pretend to be ignorant, and have them trying to connect to the microwave.
“Yes my monitor is stuck on a picture of some rice. It won’t run Windows properly”

Ummm - You are in IT? So may I presume that your relief worker is also?
How is it possible that anyone even remotely connected with IT would not know of the Microsoft Support Scam and, even worse, fall for it?
Logging that there is a new round MSS targeting your company phone numbers is certainly a useful heads up for all your co-workers.
If you seriously believe that your IT relief worker could possibly fall for something as lame as MSS you should report them to management for training or job reassignmet.

I’ve found that telling these assholes to “Go f* yourself” will get you blacklisted from their phone lists. They sell the phone lists to each other and after about six months of doing this the calls dropped to zero. I did have one female call right back and try to tell me I should be polite on the phone. I told her she called me illegally and to file a complaint with the police and immediately hung up.

Same here.
After telling them I was in IT and telling them to eff off, one called back to threaten me with being “unprofessional” lol. Told him that I was coming over to India to make man-love to his behind and that I could use some .45acp target practice when he said he knew where I lived and was sending people over. That was what - two years ago. Not a single call back. Now if only I could get the assholes to stop calling about duct cleaning.

Just take a recording of any female saying “For quality and training purposes, this call will be monitored and recorded” and play it before saying anything. That might cut down on that sort of thing. Also make sure you play a beep every minute, which some places do to notify the caller that the call is actively being recorded. No idea under what circumstances it’s required, if at all, but for theatrical effect it might be worth it.

“Yeah, I pressed Enter, but my windows aren’t moving at all! They’re staying closed, they won’t open unless I do it manually. Are you saying this screen can open my windows?? I wish I’d known about that feature earlier. Wait, I bought it at a garage sale, have I been opening the windows of the person I bought it from all this time? No? Please explain.”
Enjoy the silence as comprehension dawns …
