Morning all,

Im wondering on the feasibility of the following steps to both improve spiceworks performance when scanning, stability because of scan errors and generally separate the data out.

  1. delete existing inventory.

  2. create second spiceworks install

  3. configure second install as scanning install only.

  4. win?

Feasible to do?

Thanks in advance.

ok, I’ve done the above.

Three sites appear in the “central site”- the local site and two remote.

So the local site has one server doing scanning, one doing helpdesk…appears to work fine.

Thoughts?

Definitelty, configure a ‘remote collector’ and that does all the scanning.

doesn’t have to ‘remote’ can be in next along …

Not sure what you mean?

Its local to the site, but in Spiceworks “central server” its classed as a remote collector…

Hey BoomAM. Did you get this straightened out, or did you still have some questions?

Hi Matt,
All sorted.
Minor issue with one of the remote collectors not reporting its version correctly or sending data, but a removal and reinstall of that one corrected it.
Seems fine upto now. Help desk is more consistently responsive!

I’m hoping that the split will result in better uptime as the main process used to crash 2-3 times a week (and then auto restart and be fine) for reasons I’m guessing was the finder process. Seems fine upto now though, touch wood…:-p
