I have a new Sharepoint site that was created via Teams. I have it setup so our packing slips that are scanned go to that document library. The scans are PDF, that are OCRed. But if I search by the filename or any text in the PDF I cannot search for anything, no results show up. I checked all the search setting for this Sharepoint site and everything looks correct. I also when ahead and hit the re-index button as well.

These PDFs were scanned in on Tiuesday. As another test I took those PDFs and copied to them to our IT testing Sharepoint site, within a few minutes the content inside the PDFs were searchable. Also the IT testing Sharepoint site was created via Teams as well.

I am not sure why on this new Sharepoint site the search is not working.

2 Spice ups

I think I found the problem. Is the folders within the documents library have permissions set so only certian people can access these folders. The only groups on these folders are the Sharepoint site owners, and the groups I have created in AzureAD. The site members group that was created was removed.

But I guess that also breaks the indexing function in Sharepoint. Is there any way to restore the indexing function without opening up these folders to all site members?

If I’m understanding your situation correctly you should be able to remedy the permissions and then go into that library’s advanced settings and re-index.

How do I go about doing that? I am going crazy trying to figure out how to grant the crawler the permission into these folders?

It would be in the library settings under advanced settings about halfway down.

I don’t see anything about crawling in there, I see search setting and the reindex document library button.

Here are the current search setting:

Allow items from this document library to appear in search results? is set to yes

Allow non-default views from this list to appear in search results? is also set to yes

I hit this reindexing button about 3 hours ago.

To initiate a crawl, you must request a re-indexing.

There’s not much information as to what the crawling scheduling is as it’s managed by MS rather than by the admin as with previous versions.
