Hi all, I’m new here so thanks in advance for your help. Here’s my problem. I have footage from my go pro hero 7 black. When I upload the videos and play them through windows media player it plays back choppy. I downloaded VLC MEDIA PLAYER and that corrected my issues when playing back my footage. Now as I try and edit them using windows video editor it plays back choppy while trying to edit. Go pro settings are 4k at 60fps 16:9 ratio. My laptop is an hp envy x360 m6. Any help on fixing this issue?

How much RAM do you have? Doesn’t the GoPro have a video editor included int he software? Use that.

The OS included player and editor are probably the most basic you can get, go find a good OpenSource editor. I have used OpenShot on Linux for years and they have ported it over to Windows now - https://www.openshot.org/ . There are several other OpenSource and free ones out there but I would look in the GoPro software first.

It’s not a good idea to edit 4K video using a low power consumption laptop without a dedicated graphics card.
I didn’t use Windows Video Editor before, it’s always better to create an optimized media or proxy media to smoothly edit 4K on laptop.

HP ENVY m6-w101dx x360 Convertible PC Product Specifications

Generally speaking video editing requires a fast disk drive, a lot of memory and preferably discrete graphics card, which is not your case.
Memory
8GB DDR3L SDRAM (1 DIMM)
Video Graphics
Intel HD graphics 5500
Hard Drive

1TB 5400RPM hard drive

Installing SSD drive and adding more memory would improve your video editing experience. Other than that you can uninstall all non-essential programs from the computer to try to free resources.

@ everyone thank you all very much! I think the easiest fix for me is to record at a lower quality. I tried it already and it works for me. Glad I learned what you all have informed me on, thanks again!

Hi - Another option is to record at your high resolution and then using a product like “Handbrake” to covert it down - Its always better when you can to record at the best rate and you get the best image so when converted down you still have better quality that shooting it at lower quality.

Hope that makes some kind of sense?

I didn’t use Windows Video Editor before, what i use is TunesKit Acemovi, it spport 4k,HD video , maybe you can have a try. Besides, it will be great for you to edit 4k video using a high-profile laptop and it can increase your speed of editing video.
