software inventory collection without remote collectors

Hi,

We have 40+ offices scattered East of the Mississippi. Is there a way to collect software installs on PC’s remotely without using remote collectors. All offices have Internet access, Most offices don’t know what a network is… if you catch my drift.

Are the pc’s connected via VPN or some other form of tunnel? If you can ping the machine from the local Spiceworks server, you can collect the inventory from it. It’s not always necessary to have remote collectors (we have 54 branches with a few hundred devices with no remote collectors)

No VPN, isolated offices. No link back to HQ. I can connect via Teamvierwe/logmein.

Ahh, then I don’t know of any workaround. I’m sure some other spicehead will be able to help you shortly though.

Have you looked at belarc advisor? (http://belarc.com)

If you can log in to their machine and run the scan you can email yourself the results? You’re not supposed to use the advisor for commercial purposes though they do have a paid solution.

I’m just not sure how you are going to do this without some kind of remote collector.
