Does anyone know how do boot the sonciwall tz400 into safe mode and if in safe mode can to get a copy of the running config? I am the new IT guy in this company and last guy they had here past and took the passwords with him.

Follow the instructions Dennis2477 suggested. You also want to be onsite when you perform this as you could possibly wipe the firmware unintentionally and want to have the firmware and backups of the setups as well on a flash drive.

Thats the thing he never made any back ups. I am trying to just get a copy of the config this way I can atleast but I think im dead in the water at this point.

Reach out to SonicWall support. Explain the situation, and see if that device has any cloud backups. You will need to provide proof of purchase. If they can transfer the device to a new profile and give you access to that.
From there, you would download the backup, wipe the device and restore from backup.
