Let me start today’s Spark! by apologizing for missing last Friday’s issue. We (auto dealer) were okayed by the state to reopen with restrictions last week, and Friday was spent bringing all of our WFH sales staff back on sight. It was a last minute thing, and with that craziness I didn’t have time to get a Spark! published.

Today in History: 15 May

1869 – National Woman Suffrage Association formed in New York, US, by Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

1941 – Joe DiMaggio starts a 56 game hitting streak, Yanks lose 13-1

1948 – Hours after the Israeli Declaration of Independence was issued, a coalition of Arab states (Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia) attacked the newly formed nation, starting the First Arab-Israeli War.

On the Menu Today – Slow Cooker Mexican Pulled Pork

Since we’re not that far removed from Cinco de Mayo, I feel like this recipe is a good choice for today. I love my slow cooker, and something like this is right up my alley. Throw a big batch in on Sunday, and have meals for most of the week without any extra work!

Anyway, here 's the recipe!

Quote of the Day

“But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright Brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown.” Carl Sagan

Comic of the Day

Another random oldie, because they don’t update until late in the day on Friday. Seems very appropriate to the time we’re living in, though.

Mouseover: HISTORIANS: We’ve decided to trim the past down to make things more manageable. Using BCE/CE, would you rather we lose the odd-numbered or even-numbered years?

Totally agree with documentation comment.

well I forgive you for missing the spark last Friday. Inspirobert my coworkers lived by that to well when I got here there was almost zero documentation on anything. It hurt having to ask about everything just to be able to get things done.

Pulled pork is delicious and I’m definitely going to try that. A little less spicy and add caramelized onions as a topping and I think I’m good!

Carl Sagan is one of the best humans to have ever walked the planet. His quote for today has much truth to it.

InspiRobert: indeed.

Just yesterday evening I was performing a rather sensitive action on our storage system. I had the vendor documentation in front of me. It was technically correct, but it left out a key step.

Oh well. Job security, right?

I try not to be shameful, but I’ve found they don’t pay me if I don’t work!

No need to apologize. In our field, craziness can happen at any time.

I like to use my pressure cooker for pulled pork. It’s faster and the texture/flavor is about as good as slow cooking. If I have the time, I usually start by pressure cooking it and then reverting it over to slow cooking. That way, I can still munch on it while it gets more tender as the day goes on.

Love the Carl Sagan quote. There are so many great ones to choose from. Many years ago I read The Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark and it really changed my perspective on things.

“Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.”

Happy Friday everyone!! @vikingmichael you are forgiven, glad you were able to re-open! I hope everyone gets that same opportunity to save their businesses.

Pulled pork=happiness

All points made were great–especially the QOTD. Very true statement. Regarding InspiRobert, unread documentation is also pretty bad.

Technically, that sign is likely correct - the lake most likely is 500 ft ahead. However, it’s obviously also several (perhaps, hundreds) feet behind as well… :-\

I whole heartedly agree with InspiRobert today. But the problem I experience then is that documentation becomes a black hole. The more you document, the more you have to update the documentation as things change. Right now, I have spent much of the past two months in a frantic near-crisis mode making sketchy documentation as I implemented and/or deployed systems. The several weeks of 7 long days allowed little time to create new or update existing documentation properly so I am faced with a daunting backlog that I am gradually working through…

Truth, however, Bozo was a genius in his own special way.

It’s shameful that going to work for some is considered shameful.

InspiRobert of the Day for the win!

You are helping them to see again! WOW, did not know IT worked with visual reacquisition yet!

Sight = having to do with vision
Site = having to do with a location

Eyes don’t have an external power cord or batteries at this time so they are not the responsibility of IT!

XKCD- I am going to have to say eliminate the odd number years, elections (in the USA at least), world cup, olympics, and much more happen in the even numbered years. Oh, and I was born in an even year!

InspiRobert- definitely would rather have nothing to go on than have bad info, make it worse, then have to go back and fix that.

You forgot about:

Cite = having to do with being pedantic.

Or, as I like to call it: the Beginning of the End.

I kid! I jest! I don’t really call it that at all (least of all when my wife is within earshot).

Agree with QOTD entirely. Although, the fact that we are still talking about Bozo has to mean something. Genius? Very near, I’m sure.

Heavily Grounded Inspirobot is Heavily Accurate today. Again, trying to woo us back to a false sense of security so he can confuse the ever-living-$#!^ out of us again.
