Sophisticated Poll of Intrigue, Community, Enjoyment, and Education / Bewildering Automation Challenge of kNowledge (UDTQ#105)] - Continue Searching

Happy Wednesday, folks!

The Recap:

Yesterday’s question asked about HKCU, which is a subkey that is presented as it’s own hive, and nearly 75% of you correctly chose that it’s a subkey of HKU! Although, going off of the definition I posted on Monday, @Jonathan-Johnson pointed out that the NTUSER.DAT file representing HKCU technically could be considered a Hive, but Microsoft’s documentation on their learn platform states that HKEY_USERS "Contains all the actively loaded user profiles on the computer. HKEY_CURRENT_USER is a subkey of HKEY_USERS. "

The Ramble:

We did it! SPICE-E BACoN won the poll so we’re sticking with it!

Click to view my Ramble on my Gameboy display shelf

I couldn’t think of anything particular to ramble about this morning, but my new space is finally starting to get somewhat organized (still waiting on a few new bookshelves to arrive before I really get into organizing it, though), so I figured I’d share a picture of my Gameboy shelf.

Looking at this picture makes me realize two things, though… First, my fingers look super weird in the reflection of the Pocket’s screen, and I need to get the white PCB for my GBC to match the other two :joy:

And just for anyone wondering, the Pocket is all original hardware, I’ve just swapped it into a new case (that unfortunately came with the wrong lens… It doesn’t actually have a power LED,) the Color is a full custom build using an FPGA with no original hardware at all, and the advanced has a custom backlit IPS screen, USB-C battery, and case. The motherboard and speaker are original, though.

A lot of people seem to really like to modify the speakers in these to make them louder, but I prefer the default volume. I’ve actually had to modify my FPGBC’s amplifier to make it quieter. I don’t think you can really see it well in this picture, but there’s a small potentiometer on the side of the case behind the d-pad that allows me to turn up/down the amp more than the software controls.

The Real Question:

Day 3 of registry week! I’ve gotta be honest, though, I’m out of registry question ideas at the moment, so unless one of y’all has a good one for tomorrow’s Throwback Thor’s Day, this might be the end of registry week. :joy:

You can use Ctrl+F to search the registry, and upon executing the search you will be presented with the first result. How can you continue to the next result for your search?
  • Press the F3 key
  • Hold Alt and press F4
  • You can’t, you have to click on the next key, and run your search again manually
  • Yell “Cortana! Next value, please!”
  • I’m not sure, but I’m excited to learn more!

The Rest:

If you’d like to be notified when there’s a new question, check out this How To guide on following tags! I also typically post in the General chatroom when they go live, so come hang out there too!

As always, if you have suggestions for future questions, improvements, or want to help out with a full question, shoot me a DM or leave a comment below!

And since you’re still reading this, don’t forget to leave me a spice-up just below this! If it’s not orange and filled-in like this → :sw_pepper: it’s not spiced up yet! It lets me know you enjoy these and gives us both points, so why not?

Boo to the new name. :frowning:

I definitely enjoy finding out what new definitions you present for SPICE(-E) & BACON. It’s a lot of fun!

I usually don’t use “Please” when I yell at Cortana…

LOL * ! *

Cool, a Registry question about something I actually do. You don’t even need to use CTRL-F to search. Just do the thing in the answer to begin with, and it’ll pop up the search thingy. :grinning:

First one on the list for the terminators! haha

8 Spice ups

I’m disappointed “Boldly Ask COrtaNa” wasn’t the fourth option.

12 Spice ups

I usually don’t bother yelling, talking, or have any interaction with Cortana. She listens to me less than my kids do.

I say boo to your boo. :stuck_out_tongue:

:hot_pepper: :bacon: forever!

Boo! :joy:

Zoinks! A g-g-ghost! Run Scooby Doo!

Don’t get me wrong, I love bacon. I think using “bacon” here and there or to name this and that devalues bacon. Bacon should be special and reserved for… bacon.

Plus, “SPICE-E BACoN” is very hard to decipher and intuitively relate to a trivia quiz. There is no obvious connection.

That said, the vote was taken, the people have spoken.

I look at it similiar to how you get legislators in Congress starting with some catchy word or phrase and they work their way backwards to make sure that the title of the bill can be made to fit them. You could say they were very early adopters of the backronym.

As such, obviousness would not be required, merely intelligibility.

5 Spice ups

I think ghosts and spice and bacon should all be friends.

11 Spice ups

I’ll do my best to not devalue it too much!

I do like your reasoning here, and I’ll try to keep that feedback in mind when I’m naming stuff going forward.

I actually believe that Bacon raises anything else to the Level of Bacon so that object becomes greater and Bacon is not devalued… MMMM Bacon! :bacon:

Also long live the democratic republic of spiciness! :sw_pepper: :sw_pepper:

Do regular or even boring stories still count as “ghost stories” if they are told by a ghost? :face_with_monocle:

bacon
Bacon can never be devalued.

5 Spice ups

…Only devoured!
