SPICE-E BACoN (UDTQ#113) - Linked Master Account

Happy moon’s day, folks!

The Recap:

Friday’s question asked which of a group of options would be the best security practice, and an overwhelming majority of you (thankfully) chose “Using Multi-Factor Authentication wherever supported.” If there’s anyone in this bunch unfamiliar with the term, though, here’s a link to Microsoft’s support site on MFA, which I think does a pretty good job of explaining it as a concept.

The Ramble:

Do you like to make things? If so, what do you make? (Bonus points for pictures!)

I think I may have mentioned this in a recent Ramble, but we’ve recently combined a few friend groups into one big group, and will be going to some renaissance festivals with this group. Most of the group is putting together costumes, so I decided to try and make a few things for mine.

below is a picture of the current state of the shield I’m building, it’s made out of some EVA floor mats that I’ve glued together and carved into, with some 3d-printed parts for the “metal” bits (will be adding some more as trim pieces after painting)

It’s nowhere near the level of art that @pcarter 's turned pen that they showed off recently, but I’m pretty proud of it already! Especially considering that 3 days ago it was just a pile of disused floor mats in my garage! :joy:

I wanted to make it out of real wood, but then I remember I’m going to have to carry it around for a few days in the heat, so lightweight won out.

The Real Question:

I got a request for some harder questions recently, so my brain immediately went to “what’s the most esoteric thing I used to deal with on a regular basis?” so that’s what you’re getting for today’s question.
If you’ve got some ideas for harder questions that might be a bit more relevant to more folks, please send 'em my way! :joy:

In Microsoft’s Exchange platform, which of the following best describes the “linked master account” when creating a linked mailbox?
  • The mailbox user’s account in the exchange resource forest
  • The mailbox user’s account in the organizational forest
  • The administrative account that is used to contact the trusted forest
  • A hardcoded account (CURED\SusDomesticus) which is a “dummy” SID for compatibility with applications that require POSIX compatibility
  • I’m not sure, but I’m excited to learn more!

The Rest:

If you’d like to be notified when there’s a new question, check out this How To guide on following tags! I also typically post in the General chatroom when they go live, so come hang out there too!

As always, if you have suggestions for future questions, improvements, or want to help out with a full question, shoot me a DM or leave a comment below!

And since you’re still reading this, don’t forget to leave me a spice-up just below this! If it’s not orange and filled-in like this → :sw_pepper: it’s not spiced up yet! It lets me know you enjoy these and gives us both points, so why not?

3rd to vote … and I find myself on the encouraging side of a 2-1 split. Here’s hoping that the popular vote is the correct vote at this point.

I might have some unfortunate news for you :joy:

I did say esoteric, didn’t I? :joy:

I’m interested to see how many folks use a setup like this. I’d only ever encountered two companies that did, one of them I worked for, the other was someone here in the community looking for help on this setup after stepping into it without knowing much about it, and nobody else seemed to know how to help them at the time.

I have to assume it’s more common than my experience would lead me to believe, even just based on the fact that Microsoft built it and still maintains it, but I’m not sure who/where! :joy:

Also, how many folks caught the bacon reference on this one? :joy:

Interesting…I’m number 12 to vote, and the vote is now 3-3-3-3-0.

5 Spice ups

At 36 votes, it looks like it’s 10-10-9-7-0 … This has got to be about the most evenly split of @Josh-J-Spiceworks 's quizes so far!

It’s the one I voted for since I have no idea what the real answer is!

I like the graph right now:

While deployed to Kuwait, I began learning decorative knot-tying to pass the long hours on the midwatch in the boat house. One of the smaller US Navy traditions has been to give a fancy knot paddle as a token of service. In 2015, I created one for all armed forces to be auctioned off at our church’s “Harvest of Talents” in which proceeds go to support International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES).

That’s awesome! Great job!

I like working with metal, wood, concrete, and PVC pipe. Here’s a couple of pics of an umbrella holder.

Very nice!

I’ve always wanted to try working with concrete… I really should just pick up a few bags of it at some point, then I won’t have an excuse to not try it the next time the mood strikes! :joy:

I did that little project with a single fifty pound bag of Sakrete. It’s an easy and fairly inexpensive way to try something new.

I’m more of a fixer than a maker. I recently did some work on my car (add oil, replace a broken antenna, replace some bulbs) and had my son help for all of it, I felt like a Real Dad™

Soo Soo, Soooweee!
Here Pig!
Here piggy, pig, pig!

I am pretty good at making a mess.
Sometimes I make trouble.
Occasionally I make waves.

OK, I do like the shield, and I love that you are upcycling things also, very nice

Made this out of some old pipe from an estate sale, some old electric insulators, a couple of LED disks, old USB cord, switch and maybe a few fittings from hardware store.
Saw this idea online they said make this for like $25 was more like $60. I waited found a pail full of parts enough to make 3 of these for $5 at an estate sale. Relative that is into arts, renasanse fairs said he’s seen things like this sell for like $200-$300.

Very cool! And, yes, that’s absolutely something I could see myself spending $200 on for the SO

My father used to collect those isolators, but he never kept two of the same kind, so they were all different shapes/colors. He had an old gun display cabinet that was full of different ones. The big ones were heavy, but they’d make some really interesting lamps!

I have like 40 of this type of insulator, a friend of mine has a lot of ties to linework and they just throw these things on the ground or in a hole when there replacing them. I want to try the same thing with these but need to figure out some way to gut the metal cap and pin out of it but leave enough to drill a hole through for a pipe. The glass us cup shaped under there and just held on with glue but rated for thousands of lb of force.
