SPICE-E BACoN (UDTQ#114) - Mac Shell

Happy Tuesday, folks!

The Recap:

Yesterday’s question was one of our most evenly split questions ever! It asked which of the options best describes the “linked master account” when setting up a linked mailbox in Microsoft Exchange, and the answer we were looking for just barely snuck out a win overnight, beating the next closest answer by only 3 votes! The answer is that it is the mailbox user’s account in their organizational forest.
If you’re unfamiliar with terms like Organizational forest, Exchange Resource forest, and Linked master account, I certainly don’t blame you!

The Ramble:

I don’t have a great question lined up this morning, so I’ll just ask “how is your week going so far?”

I spent my evening painting my shield (see yesterday’s ramble for more context on that,) so I figured I’d share an update:

This is in very direct light, so it looks a bit shinier and brighter in the picture than it actually is, but in normal lighting I think it looks really cool! I’m quite proud of it.

I planned to add some “metal” strapping around the outside of it, and do some more painting, but after sharing some pictures with friends and talking with the SO yesterday, I might just leave it where it’s at, and work on other parts of the costume instead.

The Real Question:

I’m going to pre-apologize for not having a bacon answer today… I do, however, have answer involving ninjas… Ok, that was a lie, but they could be considered a ninja-adjacent animal to some, at least, so maybe you’ll forgive me? :ninja:

What is the default shell used in modern MacOS’s terminal?
  • Ksh
  • PowerShell 7
  • Zsh
  • Turtle
  • I’m not sure, but I’m excited to learn more!

The Rest:

If you’d like to be notified when there’s a new question, check out this How To guide on following tags! I also typically post in the General chatroom when they go live, so come hang out there too!

As always, if you have suggestions for future questions, improvements, or want to help out with a full question, shoot me a DM or leave a comment below!

And since you’re still reading this, don’t forget to leave me a spice-up just below this! If it’s not orange and filled-in like this → :sw_pepper: it’s not spiced up yet! It lets me know you enjoy these and gives us both points, so why not?

Mac shells is what I had for dinner last night :yum:

I was tempted to name the thread “Mac & Shells” but I thought that might be a regional thing :joy:

She sells zshells on the shore?

13 Spice ups

The shield is looking good - well done! :+1: :+1:

8 Spice ups

Thank you, very much!

The keen eye’d folks may have noticed another part of the costume snuck it’s way into the picture as well

8 Spice ups

Dagger?

8 Spice ups

Very nice! I bet in very very dark lighting it looks perfect…indistinguishable from a real one.

5 Spice ups

It couldn’t possibly be the dagger. It must be the drill…

7 Spice ups

Yep! I’ve ordered some leather cord to wrap the handle, and I might still try to make the blade look a bit more like metal as well

You caught me and my medieval drill! :joy:

EDIT: Actually, I just checked the picture, that’s a heat gun, not a drill

Steve sells zshells in the Siri store.

You’re confusing me though…

Dagger = Rogue
Shield = Fighter

(at least in my mind)

Who has a shield and a dagger?

Underequipped gladiator?
Warrior that has one level of assassin and sees the value of stabbing people in the back sometimes?

Halfling bard who can’t sing very well, and carries around a shield for the inevitable stoning?

9 Spice ups

Yes!!

5 Spice ups

Looks like you are almost ready for battle!

More like an over-equipped peasant :joy:

The dagger was just something I had printed to test some tolerances on the printer other day (it’s collapsible, and printed as a single ~5 inch tall piece,) and I wasn’t planning on taking a weapon at all, but I figured since I was painting anyway, I may as well paint it and take something with me.

It wasn’t what I was going for, but I’m also playing a sorcerer that has a shield and a dagger in one of my D&D campaigns  I needed to “waste” some feats on getting medium armor/shield proficiency, and war caster, and I’m not totally convinced that it’s 100% complying with rules as-written but the DM allowed it. Also, I talked my way into inheriting Ispin Greenshield’s green shield, and 18 AC as a (currently otherwise unarmored) sorc seemed worth it to me :joy:

7 Spice ups

Sorcerer was not something I had considered, but 18 AC sounds cool.

I typically “waste” feats on getting longbow proficiency for my sorcerers, so they can kill things while remaining out of reach.

4 Spice ups

Me too! With some lean hamburger mixed in!

@Josh-J-Spiceworks Very nice! It probably wouldn’t be feasible, but it would look super cool with 1 or two arrows sticking out of it haha

I already know what shell MacOS uses. I saw the notice when they moved from bash. I understand and a part of me recognizes the reasons for the change.

What I want to know is why hasn’t anyone in the *NIX community not created a shell called turtle?!
