Dear All,

I believe Spiceworks Ads should not be blocked ,even not for the Spiceworks Business but for IT Pro’s necessity to have Free Software providing and Community Contribution to each other.

My Reasons not to Block :

1.To keep on getting Free software by Spiceworks. ( if we don’t do it they will not get business and lose interest/investment to develop software for us)

2.Community. ( may be this should be first thing ,I am getting benefited from other IT Pro’s because of the Spiceworks Community )

3.Ads. ( At first Spiceworks posting only relevant Ads, also I am getting good knowledge on new/different products which I never seen before and they don’t force for something )

Spice it or Vote it and give your reason !

Spiceworks ads?
I’m not blocking any ads; however, I don’t see them.
Like many here, my brain refuses to acknowledge their existence.

I don’t have ads blocked. For the most part I only occasionally glance at an ad, but if it’s entertaining enough or eye-catching enough, I’ll read it. There have been some interesting ones. Not to mention there are the ones that make it out in the wild that contain some kind of error, which to me, is entertaining.

My vote is not to block Ads !

Actually I am using Advert Ban in my Firefox browser to avoid some non sense ,but any ads in Spiceworks are not being blocked !

I leave em unblocked because occasionally it’s a product pertinent to my interests.

I dont care for them but they arent blocked…i just don’t pay attention to them unless something catches my eye.

I don’t object to sites using relevant advertising.

My reasons to block ads:

  1. Animated ads - Samsung is one of the worst offenders for annoying animated ads on Spiceworks.

  2. Ads rotating in and out of the same space next to the content are almost as bad as animated ads.

  3. I don’t trust online ad brokers such as Doubleclick. I have seen too many viruses introduced as drive by downloads on too many computers due to malicious ads that weren’t caught by the ad brokers.

I have unblocked the Spiceworks site in AdBlocker, however I still block tracking cookies and other similar sites.

Ghostery is also running in Firefox to take care of things like this. The list of what it blocks amazes me. NoScript is also running, and sometimes I am leery about enabling some scripts that look, well, fishy.

As a result of the above, some/many of the ads for the Spiceworks pages don’t load. Instead I get to see the “Please Don’t Block the Ads,” Ads. To which I have made every attempt to open up my browser in order to allow the ads, but not allow the trackers and data mining.

Fix the ads so that the data mining isn’t necessary in order for them to display and I’d be jiggy with it.

I don’t mind the ads at all, however, I would prefer they just be an ad, without google analytics, Doubleclick, and all others of that ilk in the background tracking the ads and any of those who view/click on the ads.

Like others have stated, I too appreciate the fact that the ads are relative to my work and that the advertisers are paying for the software I use.

For those who don’t like the ads, just pay for the software. It is still a bargain.

There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.

I use Add-Block Plus, but I have an exception in for Spiceworks Community.

You can’t expect SW to block ad’s, that is part of their income and vendors as well.

I put up an exception for SpiceWorks adds because I was tired of the adds showing up to unblock the adds

And of course to support my fellow spicehead’s income from adds

No I don’t block and wouldn’t block ads on SpiceWorks, I accept that that’s what’s paying for it.

I’m fairly immune to them but occasionally something will spark my interest and I’ll click and have a look.

I access SW on that many different computers that setting up and configuring AdBlock on all of them would take far too long so I don’t use it. If my laziness helps SW out then thats a good thing

I hope.

I think the ads are fine if they are real. But I am always too skeptical to click on one for fear of contracting a virus…

agree, ads keep spiceworks free

My opinion is to not block ads. As this has been said many many times before. They are giving you a free management software and a free community as a resource. It’s like people who complain about ads on TV or radio. They are giving it to you for free, and sell ads to marketers for the money.

the only ads I have a problem with are the ones on hulu plus, not plain hulu, but hulu plus. We pay for the service but they still show ads. they say the subscription would be even more without the ads, to which I say, well give me that option. for me, the biggest difference between vanilla and plus is the option to play it on something besides your PC. It’s ridiculous that they still force ads especially in old movies that they have. It’s not a new show or anything, it’s dumb.

Spiceworks ads don’t get in the way, and I barely see them.

You can pay $45 per month not to have ads. (or US$ 495 per year) Hopefully this will eliminate the “sexual harassment” ads of: ‘busted user/computer/device’ wants to be in a relationship.

I was blocking their ads until they had the “Hey, our ads don’t suck!” campaign a few weeks ago. It was so awesome, I unblocked the site.
