So I keep seeing this, daily, on the “in the community” board… If you look carefully they have website links in it ;D GG spam bots

I have noticed it the last couple of days, must be getting a bit annoying for the Mod’s as well.

all sites will go through this

SpiceWorks is a BIG target so will expect to be hit , but yea, been a lot recently, and a lot to the MS pages as well, that cannot be touched until CM for that page wakes up and logs in, so we end up with front page covered :o(

Both Microsoft and Veeam were hit pretty hard as well as other areas.

At least they’re aware of it and working on things behind the scenes to combat them.

Yeah it’s been a royal pain over the last few days but SW are on the case now and the devs are investigating what they can do.

With the sidebar, this is based on cached data (to reduce the number of DB queries), so it will often show posts that no longer exist for a while until the cache gets refreshed.

I had to check it on Google Translate - all of them linked to a Chinese online casino - seems a bit untargetted really

Forum spam is part of a broader onslaught to many forums.

And, yeah, it is annoying like weeds.

I do like the suggestion of adding an AYAH to the sign up forms… and maybe even for the first level of spice?

Currently IIRC the Captcha has been put in place again to catch out the bots but quite a few of them aren’t bots, @sean-spiceworks has a post here with some more information SPAM All over the Microsoft vendor page this morning...

It looks like’s not just Spiceworks - these are turning up all over the place!

was discussed in last night’s admin&mod call

SPW have some fixes and more on the way, in the meantime we’re all trying our best to delete etc as they come in.

I’m a forum moderator on another site and we have seen a huge increase in attempted spam posts, but we put first posts from users into moderation mode and if they are a spammer they feel the ban hammer fast with a present

This is a reaction to that N. Korean NAS ad or whatever it was!

all starting again

Now they’re starting to post those spam things in the Gaming group.

Stay away from my gaming group you spammy buggers or so help me Zod I will destroy you!

I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often.
