Spiceworks Bulk Edit

Want to update some purchasing information in bulk. Is there a bulk edit feature? One didn’t jump out at me, i found an old thread from 2011 saying you needed to run SQLlite and edit the DB, hoping there is a better way to do this now though.

Please don’t edit your DB. If you do, we (Spiceworks Support) will no longer support that database, and if you have any issues with it down the road, we will ask you to start over with a new database.

As for bulk editing, I’m not positive if this will do that, but we do have a bulk import script:

Dont worry, i really don’t want to manually edit the DB.

Would the solution then be to export the devices, bulk delete them, then reimport? When it scanned again, it would match the scanned devices to the devices i imported, right?

I think that would be the best way to do it. Definitely make a backup of your DB before trying that though. Just in case

Oh! While following the import link you sent it took me a to a bulk_purchase_import.rb and i noticed there is a bulk_edit_attributes.rb.

Do you have any documentation on this script? The concern is that i’ll create some other issue if i use the import because i’ll need to delete the originals then reimport, right?

I think the bulk_edit_attributes script is only for devices

Also, I’m not sure if it will automatically match the imported items to the devices it finds while scanning the network. My hunch is that it wouldn’t, but having never run that specific import before, I can’t say for certain.

The goal’s still to bulk edit, i feel like exporting, deleting, and re importing is going to make a mess. So when I googled the

bulk_edit_attributes.rb script i came across this thread:

How do I go about importing asset tags when all I have is the serial number that they go to? I have them all setup in a nice spreadsheet. What I'm seeing is some basic answers on what to do but it appears I have to have the computer name? Also new hardware that's yet to be deployed: Can I just import at new devices with serial number and asset tag number and then SW will fill out the rest when they're imaged and deployed?

It looks like Francis is doing just that with the Importing of asset tags for existing devices. The question is how do I get a copy of the script that includes full edit attriubtes. I tried messaging Francis earlier in the week but haven’t heard back. The bulk_edit_Attributues.rb script cannot edit purchase date and price fields.

That script was made specifically for devices. To do what you want to do, you would need to edit that script and re-write it for purchases.

I think thats what we want, right? I am just trying to edit the purchase date and price for devices we’ve already inventoried.

No way to do that in bulk, currently. Again, you’d need to re-write that script above to do this, or edit them one-by-one through the app’s GUI.

Hey guys,

Has there been an update to the bulk edit devices script? I am changing rates on all my inventory and would rather not manually change 700+ devices lol.
