After comparing our manual inventory spreadsheet against SpiceWorks, I have found 55 computers that are not being inventoried at all. They are not even being listed as devices with errors.

From the Scan Overview page, SpiceWorks reports the IP addresses as “Open”. Scanning the entire DHCP IP Range is scheduled for every four hours.

I have verified that each of these devices do not have a firewall in place and that the Remote Registry Service is running. I can ping every device from a command prompt - using both host name and IP address.

I have indeed deleted devices from the list at times and have been careful about not selecting the “Don’t Scan Again” box.

This makes any kind of inventory an impossibility.

Any Thoughts?

have you tried visiting the machines and logging into the Spiceworks server?

http://[spicework server name]/fix

This will give you an idea of the problem from the PC end

I will give that a try, thanks for the direction.

you’re welcome

I get a screen that asks “What device are you on right now?” but the rest of the page is white and there is no place to input the information.

click on the device name if it is listed.

There is no list either. The whole page is blank except for the text mentioned - “What device are you on…?”

In Spiceworks, if you point to the Inventory link at the top, and click Troubleshoot. It opens a new window. Does it have a list of PCs in there?

I upgraded the SpiceWorks server.

Now, I have troubleshooting to pick from however, when I do, the hostname is not available from the drop-down menu. I am running a scan of the IP range again to see what I come up with.

In Spiceworks, there is a tool to check the PC or connectivity, but I’m blowed if I can remember how to find it. Luckily - because of this. I have a copy saved. Hopefully, I have attached it to this message. I hope it helps.

Upgrading to the latest version from 7.1 fixed all the discovery issues. I am a happy camper again.
