Hi Spiceworks community;

I had to apply a patch to my help desk server “Windows6.1-KB2550978-x64.msu” to enable replication and not change my IP address.

After applying the patch, I had to clean-up the hidden removed deice VMXNET3 adapter #2 as the patch removed this adapter and created a fresh adapter VMXNET3 Adapter.

I believe this was the cause, but not 100% sure, as I haven’t logged onto my Spiceworks app on my mobile for a while.

Since doing this, I am getting ‘Untrusted SSL Cert’ error on the mobile app, which is OK, the SSL is self signed, but the ‘Proceed Anyway’ is not working.

I have tried removing the app, and re-installing. Removing my profile, and re-adding to no avail.

It is just me, so I cannot justify spending money on an trusted CA SSL cert, the one that it has I don’t like, as the old server name is on it. BUT, I am not well enough versed on SSL cert’s to create my own, even though I have an internal Root CA. No one logs onto the portal, or to the web site - my company just emails me their requests.

Any suggestions, tips, or advice?

I did try making the MAC address the same as it was, as that had changed, but that also did not work on the help desk server.

As far as the DIY approach, one of your fellow Spiceheads had this to say: http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/1469-how-to-become-your-own-certificate-authority-and-secure-spiceworks

Out of curiosity, can you open a browser on your mobile device directly to http://yourSpiceworksHost/m ?

Hi Chad, thanks for the response.

I have read that create your own certificate post 10 times, I am not comfortable enough to perform the task and I don’t want to break something.

As far as browsing to the site on the phone, it works, I use Google Chrome, and I click on “Advanced” then “Proceed to … (unsafe)” and it loads with the read https as expected.

It is only the Spiceworks Android app that is not allowing me to Proceed once I click “Proceed Anyway”. The message of “Untrusted Certificate” with the “Proceed Anyway” is in a loop, and does not allow me any further.

Though I have noticed the certificate has not changed, serial number is the same etc… I don’t think the change in MAC address on the server has caused this problem.

I have noticed that the self signed Spiceworks installation certificate expires on 24/10/2014 which was 4 days ago. Doesn’t seem to be causing any real problems, I use HTTPS internally, and I am the only I.T person that access the system.

I would love to be able to re-create the certificate, I have never used OpenSSL. One of my Domain Controllers is a Root CA, but I have tried creating a personal certificate for Spiceworks, but I get a little lost in the creation.

I look after so many aspects of an I.T environment, I have very low experience in SSL certificates. Creating one externally for Exchange is easy enough, but this is beyond me.

Are there any other tricks to re-create the certificate? Like backing up Spiceworks, completely removing it, then re-installing?

Well, it might be worthwhile getting a ticket open by emailing us at Support@Spiceworks.com so we can get a look at the logs with an eye to why the app won’t let you skip past the warning.

Curious to see what (if any) resolution you came to, Chris. My android app is doing the same thing. Can get to my spiceworks instance no problem with web browser on phone, but having the exact same certificate issue as you with the android app. One of my techs uses an iPhone, and has no problem with his app.

Not at this time, I am in contact with support. I am also upgrading my Spiceworks to Spiceworks 7.2.00521.

My Android phone is on the latest 2.1.4 version of the app.

If I resolve the issue, I will post it here.

Well great news!!

Upgraded Spiceworks to 7.2.00521 and a new certificate request from Firefox came through, so I trusted it as normal.

I then tried the mobile app, and it worked! Came up with the below Warning, which was different, I clicked YES and it logged in.

The upgrade must have somehow known the old certificate was out of date, as there is now a new certificate, with the correct server name and dates have changed! So both my problems are solved, VERY HAPPY!

Defiantly created 2 new certificates.

Interesting… but I have this same issue… with the latest version of the app. I do not have a signed cert… so when I go to browse, I just go past the warning… I don’t really care about this, and maybe I’ll resolve that later. But the phone app worked the first time to log in, but that’s it. Now when I try to log into the account, it shows that prompt “The previously pinned certificate for xxxxxx server has changed. Are you sure you want to continue?” and the choices are NO or YES… neither button does anything.

The certificate did NOT change… but either case… why isn’t the YES allowing me to continue?

Looks like I have version 3.2.14.

And I have Android 6.0

I’m having the same problem. Did you find a solution?

Spicework version: 7.5.00107

Android App Version: Not sure, but no update showing in Google Play

I keep getting the Untrusted certificate message:

(View Details) gives me nothing.

(Cancel) returns me to the login page

(Proceed) seems to proceed but then jumps straight back to the Untrusted message

Not getting very far with the app, would like to see if there is a solution for this new version of App/Spiceworks

I too am having issues with it. I went as far as installing the Root CA in the phone’s certificates for VPN and Apps - still didn’t work.

I found that going into the Settings > Apps > HelpDesk > Data > clearing the cache and removing the data and then going back in and setting it up again allowed it to proceed past the SSL Warning (why it’s still getting the warning when the Root CA Cert is installed, I don’t know.

I resolved this problem by uninstalling the Spiceworks mobile app and reinstall it. Then log in again and now the app able to update the cert and works now.

I think the mobile app needs a patch to permanently resolve this issue.

If anyone else has this issue with the mobile app Hillmanl’s solution works for me. Uninstalled the app, then install again and I was good to go. I have a nginx reverse proxy serving up my install externally and a LetsEncrypt cert for the proxy server.

Uninstall the App and install it back. I had the same certificate issue and it get resolved.
