I have two sites. When I first started using Spiceworks (v2.0), there was no remote collector. I thus installed spiceworks at the HQ site, and it did it’s collection through a VPN tunnel of the remote site. I’d like to now install a remote collector at the remote site. I’ve seen and will follow this how to:

My question really has to do with splitting the existing Central Site into a Central and Remote site. One of the things I know I should do is remove the remote site from the scanning set up. But is there anything else I should do, to make sure that my remote assets that are currently inventoried in the Central Site stay in tact?

Any tips or pointers on this?

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer
If the remote office was being scanned via VPN, there’s currently only one Spiceworks installation (with the inventory for both physical offices), is that correct?

If so, adding a second instance of Spiceworks to be a remote collector at the remote office will automatically tag those devices in inventory. The remote ones will be updated to show that they are at the remote site, but no action needs to be done on your part in inventory. The identifiers, such as Serial Number, are the same and that’s what will be matched on with the new install.

Just be sure to make a backup beforehand, but the devices should simply be updated once they are scanned by the new install.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer
I have two sites. Site A [Alpha] will become your Central Site [CS] and your second site, B [Bravo], will become the Remote Collector [RC]. When you enable the RC mode on Bravo, it will cease to have many of the currently available functions but no data will be lost. Instead, everything will be sent to the CS. If you were running a help desk at that site, you’ll want to export them and use the import script. You can still use the RC site as a help desk if you want to, but all the IT admins will now migrate to the CS for the primary interface whereas users can continue without change. The RC will sync all tickets and inventory going forward. I don’t believe that it will update old tickets, but you may see them sync, so be sure to keep an eye out for that and use the import/export functions, backing up everything before you make any of these changes, especially if you do it to your systems in production.

Ref: Import Report | How To Import

{"@type":"Person
grey
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/grey"}}]}}
